Tracking / Re: Where to find plugins for BeRo?
« on: April 18, 2015, 16:36:20 »
Thanks for the reply and also thanks for notifying BeRo, I'm very impressed with this tracker, and I have PLENTY of VST plugs, but it seems they don't work in the sample editor and that's what I need more than anything, I don't necessarily need a tracker that can use plugins, I need one with a sample editor that can apply different effects. If I can get VST effects working in the sample editor that's just is good because I already have a set of those I've put together over time, it would be really nice to not have to switch between my tracker and my audio editor for routine tasks like spicing up whatever sample and making it fit in the mix better. That would also help keep my sample count down and not having tons of variations of the same sample, I could customize it in the tracker... yes a dream come true. I know I can do this with Renoise, I have that for doing XM, but I recently found out just how great the IT format is and BeRo Classic sure does make the format sound good ;)

I haven't been lurking around here for very long but can tell you are a pillar of the community here, I really appreciate people like you.

OK  sorry for the triple post... but really dude just because some people are confident in their music, doesn't mean it's any good. Yours might be better than you think.

Ever considered the possibility you could be using the wrong tracker? I couldn't make anything that I was happy with to save my soul using modern software. Started using trackers and it helped, but not all trackers I can use.

sorry, here's the link for synthesia... really cool piece of software, it's like guitar hero for keyboard and accepts any midi file... the internet is littered with them ;)

Anyway sorry if my advice is way off, just trying to help any way I can because I know how you feel. I was frustrated once but realized I'm doing this for fun and not having any... so I started having fun again. And it's been really good for me.

You're not the only one my friend... I hate everything I make. Not to say that it's bad, but I'm never satisfied. But the funny thing is every now and then I'll hear a tune that sounds VERY close to something I have made in the past. Makes me wish I would have held on to some of those "awful" songs.

If you want to get better, get a keyboard, that is if you're having problems with the musical aspect. Make sure it's a MIDI keyboard so you can connect it to your computer and play Synthesia. With a keyboard it is much faster, easier and more natural to explore different melodies, chords, progressions. Plus a lot of trackers accept midi, so you could even use it to make your songs.

I haven't actually made a song in a long time because I wanted to learn sound design better and then I wanted to up my theory, that's what I'm doing right now along with building a library of samples to make songwriting faster.

Hang in there and keep tracking, you'll get it. Also, maybe don't try to fit your music into one genre. When I learned to do this it got much more fun because I stopped trying to sound like X or Y. I'm not saying you're doing this I would have no way of knowing. I'm just trying to tell you things that have helped me. Like for myself, I love breakbeats. But whenever I try to make breaks that sounds like whoever I always fail. BUT when I try to just make music (and actually sit down and make some music) I am very pleased with the results.

Lastly, I have no idea if you've done this or not, but learn the basics on theory. I know it can be dull and you may just want to get on with being a superstar, but very rarely do people make good music without knowing anything in music. Not very long ago people didn't try to compose music without first playing in a band and getting to know music, but now we have computers and anyone can just sit down and bang out some sounds... whether or not those sound are music depends on how much you're willing to learn. Often I hear people say "study modules you like", well, that's great advice if you understand what's going on musically but if you don't you may just end up more confused. One tip I can give you for studying modules is use the mute function very often. Solo parts or groups of parts to see how those specific two or three or four instruments work together. It may not be so obvious when the whole thing is playing but when you hear just the string section or just the drums along with the bass you may have one of those "eureka" moments.

And most important, have fun with it. Make a completely silly song, make yourself laugh. Those will be the things that keep you tracking so that you can blow our minds sometime soon ;)

I have a keyboard that will connect to my android tablet via bluetooth and would love to use milky tracker with that. It makes a lot of sense to me. I would have tried it but the link on Play Store is broken.

I would like a link to the high resolution tablet version please.

And to the OP: I agree with much of what you are saying but it appears that much of what you're saying is under the assumption that Android users would be using their phone for Milky, if someone is going to put a lot of work into the android version, then these things should be very configurable, because as I eluded to I would be using a very high resolution tablet and so naturally your interface needs wouldn't match mine. I do see using Milky on my phone to make instruments often though... the ability to record in and improve the already AWESOME sample editor would be very nice, for instance a good noise reduction algo seeing as how samples recorded on a phone would be very noisy. Some envelope filters would be AMAZING, I don't see why trackers, especially the ones without inbuilt synthesizers don't already have this. But really, as far as making samples goes, Milky really is the best. A little bit better and it would really give most DAWs something to think about. Say, a compressor and the basic modulation effects, would REALLY make it shine. The only reason this kind of stuff wasn't in trackers back then I'm sure is hardware limitations. But really, recording is a must, FT2 had that figured out wayyyy back then, I don't see why more trackers don't do this. I have and use hardware synths daily.

Tracking / Where to find plugins for BeRo?
« on: April 18, 2015, 14:10:36 »
I'm looking for BeRo Tracker Classic's native format plugins, I believe it's .BTP and BTPi format.

Please Help I really want to make serious use of this tracker.

Tracking / BeRo Tracker (also vs. Schism)
« on: April 18, 2015, 14:08:22 »
I've been trying it out lately and it seems very good. I've read some negative comments about it on the internet but mostly regarding lag, which, I experience none of. If you want to use this tracker with a P2 with 256mb of RAM I don't know about that one. It is a modern tracker after all. One thing in particular that drew me in to this tracker is the full support for the IT format. I never could get into IT because of the interface but BeRo Tracker gets you the IT format with more of a FT2 like feel. It's still on multiple pages, but it does it in a very convenient way.

I compared it with Schism, and it sounds WAY, WAY BETTER. The sounds are more upfront, mix better and are clearer. I was blown away by the difference. There are a couple of aspects of the sound that Schism produces better, but all in all BeRo wins by a LANDSLIDE. So if anyone tried earlier versions of BeRo and didn't like it, I urge you to try it again. It runs really smoothly on my machine, it will be my go-to along with SunVox.

If anyone knows how to use plugins in the sample editor (or where to find plugs it will accept) please share this knowledge, that and the ability to record samples would make this my dream software.

ok so I'm guessing the .cfg file just can't be edited? what I don't unterstand is how milky knows the changes weren't made by itself... is there a timestamp or something I'm missing here?

MilkyTracker Support / Changing the color of the scrollbar?

It along with a few other colors aren't included in the color editor, any way to edit the .cfg file? When I try in notepad Milky gets very upset.
