The Lobby / Re: Timbaland ripped a track from demoscener

It is kinda questionable what's going on now.
As quoted in my last post, there's something going on between GRG and Timba, as his tune was obviously used, so it's possibly that there will be no case between Tempest and Timba...

Tracking / Re: MOD: Funk Repeat

okay, that's what Ian says at the un4seen forums about the way xmplay works:

XMPlay treats EFx as "FunkIt" (when in PT1 mode).

Actually, looking at the code just now, I think EFx is treated as "Invert Loop".

Looking at the ProTracker 1.0 and 1.1 playback code, XMPlay is doing what PT1.1 does. It's a bit confusing, as the PT1.1 source labels/etc still say "funk", but it does seem to be inverting the loop data. I'm not sure what the PT1.0 code is meant to be doing :D

Tracking / Re: I'm so looking for chip samples.

raw data files often does not fit for "classic" chip tunes which need pure square / pulse / triangle sounds. it *may* sound good, but it most cases, you won't find the original sound of a classic chiptune.

uh, imo linux is not ready yet for professional equipment :)
About modplug, have a look here, especially on page 2 und 3, if i read it correctly (some time ago), pelya even managed to compile it with native linux libraries... however, it seems to work stable on WINE now.

I'm not sure if you're right here, because modulars and moduels don't have anything in common afaik :D and modules are normally not purchasable...
G5, isn't that a Mac computer? I don't know how many module players there are and how good they are, and I especially don't know which trackers are available for the Mac. There is a audio library called "BASS" (www.un4seen.com) which can also be used on Mac systems, but the player itself ("XMPlay") is for Windows only. Now, what is a tracker? Basically, it's a piece of software that can be used to produce music. The most notable difference between a tracker (like MilkyTracker, ModPlug Tracker) and a sequencer (Cubase, Logic) is the direction the music is displayed: a tracker displays your piece of music vertically and a sequencer plays it horizontally. Get more information at Wikipedia.
Last but not least, Bit Torrent is a filesharing network. You need a Client like Azureus (I'm pretty sure it also works on Mac systems) to handle torrent files. Also have a look at Wikipedia to find out how it works.

{please include this warning if you copy/paste this to other forums: the below may be wrong, either in detail or in full, since I haven't seen the filing. Therefore, if anyone wants to get upset about anything... WAIT FOR THE ACTUAL FILING, and base your grievance on that! At some point I'm due to get the English translation of the filing, and then (with their permission),I'll either link to it or publish it.}

It's my understanding that the filing contests that GRG has been infringed, and that his work is sufficiently different to Tempest's as to qualify for copyright protection on its own merits. Note that I don't think this stops Tempest taking his own legal action, and it's not GRG claiming that he wrote Acidjazzed Evening: it's GRG claiming that what Timbaland stole from him was protected by copyright law by virtue of possessing creative attributes attributable to GRG himself. It's just a necessary prerequisite to establish that GRG's version was a product of skill and creativity rather than being a straight port that anyone could do, so you can then establish that it was legally possible for him to be infringed.

It's my own personal theory that Timbaland's steal had nothing to do with the original MOD, and that one of his lackeys is a SID fan, who just happened to use GRG's work. My belief is therefore that GRG's version of the track was instrumental (if you'll forgive the pun) in the composition of the piece.

Again, all disclaimers, I am not a lawyer, etc, etc, etc. Interpret with caution!

I think he means that MT should interpret the additional commands that are sent via these protocols. Btw my Yamaha synth also supports XG of course, it would be cool to support it so I could probably also record pitch wheel changes and the knob settings :)
