The Lobby / Re: Timbaland ripped a track from demoscener

No kidding, I would be PISSED.  I would publicize the crap out of it...  and, yeah, obviously seek damages and/or royalties.

Don't think that some "15 minutes of fame" (acknowledged or otherwise) makes it worth it for your art and creativity to get pillaged by someone else.  If you want to be famous, you can do it - it just requires some dedication in the long term.

There's that retarded saying, "good artists copy, great artists steal"... That is pure BS.  Great artists create from the heart and soul,  completely from within.  Whoever came up with that quote is completely misguided and frankly not remotely worthy of any recognition as a professional, ever.   Of course, it was probably coined by someone who would do anything for their 15 minutes of fame, regardless of moral/ethical sound-ness.

Yeah,  my $0.02 CDN...  ;)

OK, just listened to your songs first.. yeah, that's a total ripoff.

Good thing his song sucks ass anyways.  I mean, turning your interesting track into some painful cheesy Tiesto-esque BS.  I hate that crap.

Yeah, no dispute that it's complete theft of your song and Phoenix2k's remix.   Report it to myspace.  He'll get shut down pretty damn fast - I've heard of bands ripping off others.   Just contact Myspace with the same details you gave us here, it's an open and shut case, for sure.

Pretty damn frustrating.   I wouldn't mind people taking inspiration from my songs or even ripping off a small element,  but basically doing a remix and claling it your own original song without permission is just total BS.

Thanks.. :)   Now I'm just trying to find "4th Directive", but can't find ANY info anywhere.

hehe, may very well..  I guess it's got some potential to turn into a pretty cool song.    BTW so far all sounds were hand-drawn waves, nothing grabbed from anywhere else.   I'll probably continue that trend,  for now anyway (although I might start making my own wave samples from synths that I have, in order to get nice high-quality sounds)...  ;)

Help me find that... / Re: music from Battle Girl computer game

OMG, so damn awesome.  I emailed Loolarge, writer of the one song ("0 - the remutation") in the game demo.   Got a response from him - he listed the track list for me. Just song names, but it's enough that there's only one I can't find.

Tracklist..

1.Fluff link
2.O-The remutation link
3.4th Directive  -  can't find so far :(
4.Welcome to the gods link
5.Joy link
6.Abstraktd link

Check those out.. pretty cool hey?   Of course, they are about 8000x cooler when you played the game they are in, which is a pretty trippy fast-paced arcade-style game.

OK, I've been doing a crazy amount of investigation here.

I managed to find a demo version of Battle Girl for windows (wtf I thought it was Mac only) on some taiwanese site.  installed the demo (amazingly, runs!) .  Found one music file in the game folder,  "remutat.madh" .

After like 2 hours of intensive searching, there is simply NOT A PLAYER for "MADH" format music for Windows.   If I wanted to play this song, I'd have to dig up one of my old Macs and install PlayerPRO on it.    :(

I opened up the file in Wordpad and I can see that the full song title is "the remutation" , which, after a Google search, appears to be made by someone under the name of Loolarge. I managed to track down the original at:  http://rr.rockz.org/rr/loo-orem.zip

That's cool, but this is my least preferred song in the game, and the other songs were by different artists, if I recall correctly.

Guess I am back to square one, since I have no information about the other songs in the full version of the game.  :(

MilkyTracker Tracks & Songs / Re: how to insert instruments...

haha, what,   no way dude.  It is totally benign, not gunna do anything unwanted to your PC.  At least, I've got it running on like 4 computers now,  no issues,  runs totaly fine, nothing suspicious at all.

Alright,  so, I used a tracker like 8 years ago, and literally only used the piano roll step editor in PlayerPRO, and had no clue effects even existed, so the stuff I made wasjust really really primitive umm, basically playback of waves with nothing special.

SO, that said,  attached is the first module I've made, in MilkyTracker,  years later.    Just a really short one that I made to figure out some techniques and start to learn the app.   Will do something more "full" next.

Well, really really doubt anyone is going to know this.. but I remember years ago I played this cool Mac game called "Battle Girl".. the music was super cool, and I used ResEdit to extract the music tracks.   Unfortunately I don't have the files or the game anymore, but I was hoping someone might know at least WHO made the music, so I can try to find it!   I seem to recall the music was done by a small handful of diff people whose songs were used in the game,  but I can't remember even a single word/phrase/name of any of the songs or artist(s) .

If anyone knows anything at all, please let me know... thanks... !

I see.. just last night I had noticed that a repLength of 0x40 seemed to be the right frequency for a proper C-4 note, which is what, 64 decimal, right?   Interesting...  What do you mean n^2,  numbers that are always powers of 2?  except, that would be 2^n or something... I don't know... haha

Anyway, for anyone reading this now, if drawing a basic wave, you can make the repeat length at 0x40 (hex) or 64 (decimal), and you'll get a proper C-note pitch.  ;)
