Hiya

Dr Awesome's - Now What (3 altogether) series of modules are great listening. Think they were included as tunes for Eurochart?.. Probably easier to write as a medley than submit 3 or 4 modules, but he was quite prolific back then...

Hi to all!

While searching on the internet about some modules I downloaded many years ago, I found out that some of them are actually lost, since they doesn't seem to be hosted on any modules database site and search engines yield no results. Extending the search on the modules I got from old CDs, other seemingly lost ones popped out.

I would like to upload them here on TMA, so to preserve them and make them available to everyone  :).

Here is what I found so far:

sam vs bottle (uncredited) (SAMBOT.MOD)
cgirl.mod (uncredited)

These above are among the very first modules I downloaded from the internet, back in the 2000s, when I searched about MODs on Google, and Modplug Central popped out. At the time it hosted several modules (and its where I discovered the existance of XM and IT modules, along with a new player, different and newer from the WinMod PRO dug out from an old shareware CD (which handled just MOD and S3M)).

Acker1 (uncredited) (ACKER1.MOD)  found on an old floppy, cannot find any info about this
n.s speed (uncredited) (NSSPEED.MOD)  found on the same old floppy, seems a MOD conversion of n.s. speed.stm hosted on Modland
lookout (by Laxity) (LOOKOUT.MOD)  found on a 1994 cd, this seems to be missing from every module database
jazzy work (uncredited) (JAZZY.MOD)  found on the same cd, no info on this
freedom (by Samplemixer?) (FREEDOM.MOD) same as above, this module is already hosted on Modland, but this version has a faster tempo

I'll let you know if I find something else.

Hi to all  :)

While listening to random modules, I stumbled upon a few ones, unusually longer than usual, which sound like medleys made of various modules.

This is what I'm talking about:

now what???:
https://modarchive.org/module.php?91523

now what ii:
https://modarchive.org/module.php?91376

Eurocharts-20:
https://modarchive.org/module.php?87266

Since the first part of now what ii is an altered pitch version of the module counter-measure (https://modarchive.org/module.php?42922), my question is: are these simply long modules, or multi-track medleys?  ???

Judging by the description I think you are talking about In Pursuit of Greed / Assassinators:

- Is a shooter (FPS)
- Is from 1995/1996
- has multi-track S3M tunes in game directory

I don't recall any included players though... Maybe was featured in a different release than the one I have?

I would continue making repetitive crappy 3/10 house in a DAW if I have never heard of modules (specifically Carlos' modules. These jazz modules are a really big influence on me).

top10

caught_my_illusion.xm
cloning_clones.xm
nf-picts.xm
radio_signals.s3m
scamper1.xm
temple_of_weirdness.xm
utopaiila.xm
032600.it
lamb_-_c64_-_einstein.xm
garbage.s3m

top 5 or 6 no particular order. they are all cool!

"cloning_clones" the closest style from recent artist arcenzzraath. except his tracks are just too loud.

i wish i could hear more drum-n-bass like "radio_signals", like the alex martin "summer rain" track also. (that on commercial cd compilation) actually difficult for me to do, i have tried it. i get tired quickly of "amen", "apache" etc.

the "scamper1" looks like it was by african artist. a bit too quiet. recall a bit like disjecta, i have both his records. like his work with seefeel too. but this module has odd beat, what i like the most.

discovered another called "botik.xm" by roberto mirkok. don't know if it's the same person. says also from consenza, italy. the same style.

all these downloaded circa 2011 also. not in recent time. i have three or so but i have to look up their filenames.

i put eleventh. but not actually in that list. i discovered this in "rockbot" game. it was put down as "daisie-bot" song. it was by artist from norway.

i put twelveth too. but got this from qb64 mod player by "a740g", one of the developers of qb64 phoenix edition. this is better to see patterns play back, i don't like music nor style that well. this only play "mod" format but is very good program.

get used to me. i am a part-time computer programmer. also a less-successful electronic musician.

primarily i use openmpt. because sometimes i have to work with clunky plug-ins. but i have also used milky tracker and schism tracker. the latter program is better. but the keystroke combinations are not.

now i use 64-bit linux exclusively. beginning in 2014 i used ubuntu. before that i used windows. but i preferred xp and 32-bit. i had enough with "full screen menu" and broken "standard" apps of windows 8. however i had difficulty adjusting to gimp, libreoffice and other programs i found on ubuntu. in recent year i distro-hopped a bit. now i have spirallinux with kde plasma desktop on my older laptop. but it is older debian base "bullseye". meanwhile on my newer computer i'm using debian "bookworm" with mate desktop.

i shall look into "noble numbat." i hope is not too bloated. i don't mind snaps that well but i wish it could be snappy like 32-bit way back then. other things before i could return to ubuntu, which is what i prefer.

i have downloaded many modules from this site. since 2011 but there is a break of many years. i couldn't have internet. before too long i post about my first brushings with this site.

I'm afraid not. If I remember correctly, I wasn't that enthusiastic about the game. I listened to the s3m file more than I played the game. I played AoE2 a lot and Unreal somehow doesn't fit into my memory either. Thanks for the thoughts though!

Not the Unreal games, Deus Ex or Age of Empires?

Unreal games had .umx wrapper but effectively were .s3m or .it tracker files.

Siren, Michel Van Den Bos, Necros, Basehead among the tracker artists...
