An ethical question for the community regarding samples
« on: November 25, 2013, 14:16:27 »

I am fairly new to samples and I was wondering what the community felt in regards to using other peoples samples. For instance drum samples in particular...

If I wanted to use roland samples or a drum sample I liked from another musician is this looked down upon at all? I dont want to be 'stealing' if its considered that.

but I honestly like some peoples drum samples and would like to use them.

Thanks for any input on the subject.

This question has been asked and answered many times before, e.g. here: http://forums.modarchive.org/index.php?topic=3216.0
In short: Noone will probably kill if you use other people's samples, as long as you credit them and as long as they didn't prohibit sample usage. Also, it helps a lot to not copy some terribly obvious samples and to mix borrowed samples with other other samples to create your own style.
