As some of you may know, m0d is currently in hospital. Some of you may also know that m0d is the greatest advocate and provider of genuine 100% certified
Nightbacon. What is Nightbacon? Well, it's bacon, cooked and eaten at night! Here is m0d cooking the nightbacon down at the beach during the Sundown 2012 demoparty:
Anyway, in celebration of m0d and Nightbacon, and as an effort to hopefully cheer him up - I decided to put together this quick easy guide to producing Nightbacon in your own home.
Step 1 - Nightbacon must be cooked at night.Exactly what defines 'night' is difficult to describe, certainly it must be dark but also much later than your usual meal time. I have decided to cook my Nightbacon at 22:35:
Step 2 - Prepare the frying pan.Real Nightbacon must be fried, ideally outside on a small stove. Unfortunately I didn't have an outdoor stove at hand so had to use the kitchen hob. To prepare the frying pan, add a small quantity of cooking oil. Heat up the pan to a suitable temperature - you want it hot enough to boil away the water and cook the bacon crispy, but not so hot as to cause the pan to spit hot fat. I chose a medium heat setting.
Step 3 - Remove the bacon from the packagingWhile the pan is heating up is an ideal time to remove the precious bacon from its imprisonment of plastic, as you can see here I have chosen Danish unsmoked back-bacon, currently on a 3-for-£10 offer at Sainsburys (other brands are available). Sometimes you are lucky and the packaging will open easily by hand without any tools, most of the time you will need a knife or scissors.
Step 4 - Add the bacon to the pan and cook itThe first few minutes of cooking will be spent boiling away the water contained within the bacon. After a while, the bacon will start to cook proper. Expect some shrinkage and curling. Use a suitable cooking utensil to manipulate the bacon to ensure it is cooked thoroughly.
Step 5 - Prepare the toastWhen the water has boiled away and the bacon has started to cook and change colour, place some sliced bread in a toaster and toast on a medium setting:
When the toast is ready, the bacon should be about done also. I prefer crispy bacon:
Step 6 - Combine the ingredients!Add butter/magarine to the toast and arrange the bacon evenly. Tomato ketchup is recommended:
Optional extra: cheese slice:
For convenience, cut the final product in half:
Step 7 - Eat!This is it! A mere 10 minutes from starting you are now ready to feast on the glorious Nightbacon! Surely one of the tastiest foods known to man. Now that you know how easy it is to prepare such a wonderous meal, you may be tempted to cook it more often; however, beware - excessive Nightbacon can be dangerous to your health and sanity:
Get well soon m0d!
