The first video sounds more module-like to me, but they could both be modules, or neither, of course.
Any ideas what they are? :P

Almost certainly not (sample-based) modules. We are talking about something that sounds like typical early 2000s era trance (probably noncommercial home studio stuff, but could just as well be commercial), not like sample-based modules from that time.
Maybe you should check out the di.fm classic trance stream rather than ModArchive if you like this stuff. ;)
