experimental/electro acoustic/etc mods?
« on: August 06, 2024, 11:54:50 »

Hi,

I am interested in finding mods in the experimental field more towards electro acoustic music (Stockhausen, Xenakis), music concrete (Schaeffer) minimalism (Reich, Glass), noise, drone, ambient, sound art, etc

maybe can be described as containing some of:

-music that does not use a fixed metre (ie not in 4/4 or 3/4 all the time)

-not using fixed diatonic or pentatonic tonality

-mods that use randomness or generative methods (if there exist something like this in this realm, simulated or real).

-free live improvisations with trackers

...I understand that trackers are not made for this type of music and that they excels in making beat type of music that utilize minimal system resources, but maybe there are experiments made...?

I am also looking for trackers that could be suitable to for making this type of content.

You can look in here: https://modarchive.org/index.php?query=46&request=search&search_type=genre

As for trackers suitable: Almost all trackers if not all of them are pretty much the same

Hi, thanks. What was the search query you used? Seems to be some cool stuff in there.

Are there not any mod trackers where there is random functions? Something similar to sample&hold of noise, or something to randomly change pattern length, or pattern order, have tracks to play att different time base?

I recall messing around with chip trackers like Sidwizard (c64) and little sound dj (gameboy) and there was functions that let me do this.

Is there a page or site where you can read about the difference between different trackers? Like why would I want to use protracker instead of Impulse tracker and vice versa? I am interested using original hardware btw.

Hey again.
You can sort the uploads by genre on Modarchive and "Experimental" is a genre listed under "Other" sublist on the page. All of the tracks in the link are those experimental ones.

I don't recall any traditional trackers having any randomizer features. Perhaps it's doable by a custom script to edit the mod data, but in the trackers themselves - they don't exist.

I am not sure if any exist, honestly.
Half of the tracker choice is preference and the type of music you want to make
Half of it is the features trackers provide you with

I would suggest some S3M files by Marcel Blum (developer of Soundplant), available here: https://amp.dascene.net/detail.php?detail=modules&view=18515

First found this guy's S3M stuff through Mazzive Injection Tracked Worx '98. Dunno if they should be posted on TMA however.
