I'm just curious about your your tracking means.

First, do you usually use to record notes while playing or you just compose while all is stopped ?
About your means, do you use standard pc keyboard (without key jamming if possibile ), any keyboard device or something else?
I mostly wonder if some of the new composers that use products like modplug or milkytracker write at the same way of old amiga composers of the best years (imo of the very early '90s ), and also if there's some stuff that is definitely obsolete at this time.

And last, talking about sampling - I mean only software side -, there's a software you prefer?

For this point, personally I'm watching for fl studio, which have a lot fo nice samples and effects that can be used to post produce a custom sample.

I normally avoid the former and prefer the latter.

I almost only use my PC keyboard (without key jamming) and sometimes also my hardware synth for recording via MIDI.

i have a midikeyboard, but i only use it to compose, not to enter notes. the main reason for this is that inputs on the keyboard are indipendent form milkytracker that way and i can do what i want without influencing or changing anything in the song.
i only edit without playback, as the timing is not a problem for me.

for sampling: i pretty much only use the sample editor within milkytracker. very few times i used audiacity to cut some long samples.
will use it more often in near future probably, as i just bought a lp-player and found a few very old things i'd like to sample.

I usually stop and edit patterns, unless there's a complicated rhythm I can't hammer out quickly, so I play/record to rough it out, and line everything up right.

For sampling, I cut loops in Milkytracker, and stick them in a folder for possible use in Schism Tracker, and save instruments for both trackers, if I feel a need at the time, and apply effects I can't get in a tracker to a sample in Audacity, and occasionally sample VSTs in OpenMPT if there's a sound I can't find.
