Plug plug plug
« on: December 04, 2010, 01:37:30 »

Hello everyone. I would first like to thank the hosts of the Mod Archive for putting together a great site and resource for tracker artists. I am still pretty new to this judging by the amazing works I have witnessed on this site. Just the same, I hope you all will take the time to give me some input on my tracks. My newest track on here is called Dream Sequence and I feel it is my best work to date. Give it a listen and tell me what you think.

Willie

Hey, welcome to Modarchive! Land of pies and sweet tunes!

I listened through this song and I can see what you were going for. Soft sine leads, warm synths and mellow dynamics. You did quite well at achieving the mood, but frankly, you had several opportunities in the song to bring it even further. Here's some feedback:

- The intro was easily the best part of the song - good job on that one.

- The chip bass you used doesn't feel right in the context of particularly the first half of the song; it lacks texture and sounds thin. Can't quite place my finger on it.

- At pattern 11 I could hear you running out of ideas and merelly repeated yourself. there was definitelly potential for more. More variation or things going around in the background would have been an improvement in breaking the repetition.

- Loved the laugh track, you used it perfectly in pattern 4 and 5 to truly mark the mood progression.

For a beginner, you're good - merelly inexperienced. You can only get better from here on. 8)

Thanks for the input Eagle. The bass sound is actually a kick drum sample taken from a drum machine. I just looped the last half of it and tuned it to the other samples get the bass sound in order to get the kick and the tone. I need to learn to take my time with my tracks. I get anxious and it is my nature to forget about some tracks if I leave them sitting for too long. Your ten common mistakes write up is really good reading. Thank you again for checking my track out.
