hello
« on: July 15, 2012, 05:42:55 »

So I am getting back into listening to some mod music.  I found an OLD CDROM I'd burned (looks like latest date is '95ish).  It had a collection of mods I'd put together on it.  Some of them are awesome, IMO.  They were even in a folder I'd labeled "fave"  ;D

I have looked for some of them here and not found them.  I'd like to share them.  Let's assume I am not sure if I just couldn't find the song, and start there.  Does the archive have a way to cross check (let's say by file size, rather than name) so I'm not duplicating effort?  Is there even a way to upload mods if I'm not the author?  Most of this stuff is almost 20 years old, some IS 20 years old.  I've looked at comments, .nfo files, etc and they still talk about BBS systems and websites that are long dead.  So it's not like I can track the authors down and say "is it alright if I post this file."

We've recently had many people uploading their old mod collections and from experience I can say that we already have 90% of the material people upload. We outright reject files that are bitwise identical with an already existing file on the archive, but of course there are often some variations (e.g. because people re-saved the file in another program, or because the file has been uploaded to a BBS which added their own advertisements in the sample text). Searching by song name is often a good way to find such duplicates. Simply put: If you don't do that, we will have to do that so you're just pushing the work to someone else if you don't. If the files are by a well-known author, you can be rather sure that we have them already.
TL;DR: Yes, you can upload the files once you've got an account on the archive, and you have to select that they are not your own files upon upload, but please check song/file names if the file is already there.

TheMarathon.mod 2/12/93 234 KB (240,284 bytes)

Properties inside the file:

That does indeed seem to not exist on the archive yet. Go for it!

I uploaded it - I couldn't make uploads work with IE, but with FF I got it uploaded.  Now it's in pending.  I want people to hear this, I LOVE this mod.  Definitely one of my favorites.
