looking for that one tasty texture

i can't quite put my finger on it; i've been trying for a while to craft it myself. it's in this video, at 2:10.

massive respek to anyone that can help me make that instrument

Two of the NES's 20a3 sound chip's sound channels are dedicated to producing pulse waves of the following variations:

‾|_______ The "12.5%",

‾‾|______ the "25%",

‾‾‾‾|____ the "50%", or square, and

‾‾‾‾‾‾|__ the "75%".


I think the "texture" you're after comes from playing notes on both pulse wave channels, one for the actual melody and the other harmonizing it. Different note and wave combinations produce different sounding results. Experimentation and variation are key, methinks.

i'm coming closer, for sure. perhaps someday i'll land that one tasty texture i've been looking for. thanks so much for the advice, i really appreciate it. if i hit pay dirt i'll be sure to share
