TMA DB vs API
« on: July 17, 2020, 20:34:06 »

Greetings! Long time listener, first time caller (not counting a couple forgettable tracks I submitted in the 90s).

I've used the torrents to get the songs, and I find that I would *really* like to organize them. There is, of course, the API, but thinking about the request limit, it seems the API isn't the right tool for this. I notice that on a few occasions, anonymized DB dumps have been possible. Is this still the case, and if so, what's the right way to go about this?

Thanks, either way, for all the time you've spent in and on behalf of this community over the years!

Yes, there are currently no recurring dumps but if you need some specific data (e.g. title, filename, md5 hash, etc.), you can let me know and I will see what I can do about it.

Great news to hear!

MD5, Artist, and Title would be sufficient for my uses, and there's no urgency whatsoever (I've been sitting on the question itself for months).

Thank you!

I'll see what I can do about it in the next few days. However, there's something useful to know upfront: Over the course of the years, many duplicate modules have been merged, so you will find modules in those torrents that won't map to any hash that is in the database right now.

Shouldn't be a huge deal - being able to cut the work by even 50% programmatically will take a few years off the workload :)
