Can't register email containing "+" character

My email address contains a "+" character.  I used it to register with the forum here, but the regular modarchive site doesn't permit the same email address and returns the error, "The address entered didn't appear to be a valid e-mail address. "

It's no big deal; I used another email address to sign in―but "+" is a valid character in an email address.

I'll have a look what can be done. Most of the code on the website is now more than 10 years old, so there's a lot of things that need to be badly rewritten.

Saga Musix:
Can you send me the email address you tried to sign up with (can also be done via private message)? I just double-checked the code and the + character shouldn't be an issue, maybe there was a different thing the code didn't like about that particular address.
