question about copyright or your mods

(1/2) > >>

GeomanNL:
Some of the mods are really cool, and I would like to include them in an open-source game which I'm working on. It'll take a while before the game is completed, if ever, but anyway ... am I allowed to use some of those mods ? I'm not going to make money with it! For example, I'd like to use waterdrop.it, centaurus01.it
I hope I can :)

limestar:
Like with any other material, you'll have to ask the authors before using it.

GeomanNL:
Aha... ok, thanks.

But ehm, "liquid velocity" by "pinion" is a nice piece of music, but it shows no contact information, and googling for his/her name doesn't help either. What should one do in such a case... to use or not to use, or to use with caution ?

Ceekayed:
Well, it'd be more appropriate not to use a song that's author cannot be contacted by any means, but most people give the permission to use their music on freeware games, so it's really up to you. Just remember to credit the author if you use the song.

limestar:
Bottom line is you can't use it unless you have permission. If you do anyway, you're doing something illegal, and there's no way to get around that. If you wanna do it anyway (causiously or not), is of course your choice. I'd suggest you don't, though.

My best suggestion for your case is to try to find the author - ask around these boards, check other songs by the same author for contact info, look for an artist page... such things.
