This is a brilliant tune with some really tribal vocals in it. It sounds very similar to the work that Mike Oldfield does these days. Its goes some excellent synthesizer sounds playing in the background with a really wide strings section. The drums couldn't be better suited, a perfect selection of loops and percussion instruments that really emphasis the gentle dancing beat. You ought to let this play all the way though and listen to the qualities of this mod. It is not repetative and uses some absoulutly astounding stereo melody riffs. Its full of texture and can really pick you up and carry you along with its mystical flight atmosphere. Overall: Its one of the best tribal chanting mods i've heard. A definite recommended download, as this artist has done a brilliant job. Wonderful use of effects to really generate that flying atmosphere. Its use of tracks in this mod is nothing but pure brilliant tracker ability. the samples are extreamly high quality with a superb selection of instuments. Overall: what else can i say? techncially its impressive, although not that long in playtime its a definitly well made tracker tune. |

Well, this is a really really old mod, i remember having this on my CDPD disk that came with my A570 CDROM drive for my Amiga 500+! (this is like 8-9 years from 1998?). Anyway, neough of the hisory lesson. This mod is great if you like the old maiga tune that were about 10 years ago, its got a typical selection of samples (made from an FM synth keyboard?) which really gives it an 80's style feeling. The bakcing is repeatative all the way through but it actually sounds great, the melody is cute and synthy along with a simple bass line and primative set of drums. The melody passes through many phases and is quite varient with a main chorous that each varience returns to. Its quite a long mod (like over 6 minutes). "We are the Devils" has no author name with it unfortunatly, but who ever made it was a genious as it may sound primative now, but back then it was the art of a master of mods. What would you expect from a mod that came out just after the Amiga? sure its primative and only uses channel echoing across the tracks, but the tune is nevertheless great with a basic and lite selection of synthy samples. |

It starts with a pattern of piano melody and is soon joined by a synth bell type instrument. A pan pipe is also introduced for a very short period, at about this time the piano backing really starts to get over repetitive which begins to get annoying. Again the synth bell repeats it's melody one more, then it stops! thats it. no ending, nothing! is this mod finished yet? Overall: Its far to undeveloped to be anything of remote interest to anyone. If there was perhaps a bass line, some other instruments and a set of percussion used here, it could help texture the tune and make it more interesting. As it is, it sounds uncompleted and dull. Apart from a few pitch-bends, there is not much technically impressive about this mod. Considering the number of tracks your allowed to have in XM format, it has no where near given a challenge for the software as it uses hardly any of the resources available. Overall: Unless more work is done, its a no-go I'm afraid. |

An intersting sequence of chords mixed with a fast looping break beat drum loop. Its snappy and very synthy especially when it gets into the main body of the tune, which is about half way in. The use of the filter cut-off synth samples sounds great along with the punchy bass line. The syncopated chords do get a little repetative, but they stop somewhere near towards the end of the mod. Some new ideas on the melody are introduced just as the mod comes to an end including some "comping pianos". The ending is not that good as all it consisits of is a simple fade out, except the drums come to an abrupt stop withou any fade on them. Overall: a pleasant techno beat tune with plenty of ideas to keep it running all the way through without it getting too boring. Could improve on the chord sequence though as it does get a bit over used. Plenty of texture in this mod to keep it moving, although its only a 4 track mod file, it certainly manages to convey the music over with a fist full of punch and power. The technical effects used in the mod are pretty limited with not mutch in the way of panning/echoing etc, but a lot of syncopation is used in the chord sequence which is nice. Overall: Not technically astounding, but good enough to make this a sound mod tune. |

Very similar to Winter.xm (the first Winter one) also available on the archive. I have copied the review and changed a few things as they are extramly alike. Again, its a fast synthy/techno tune with another great synth melody accompinied by a super fast drumming track and step-cutoff synth sounds and swirly lead sounds. Its a great tune with a definite hint of early 90's synth style incorporated. The drumming sections are brilliant, fast breaks and fill-ins (like the first one). The bass line and chord sequences are also super catchy too. The orchestral hit instument isnt used as much in this one, but plenty of other ideas have been incoporated which make this mod MUCH better than the first! Again it ends quite briskly, but at with a different ending technique and some new instrument sounds. It is just the right length to keep interest. Panning, accenting, echoing and good use of samples presents you with a super tune with a great melody. Pitch bends are widley abundant here which is reminiscent of sawtooth and swirly lead synthesizer sounds. Overall: A cool selection of effects and good quality samples certainly do this mod tune justice. The artist seems to know his/her way around tracking software, i know of several other mods by this artist. Keep an eye out. (like winter.xm, also on Modarchive) |

This mod is very catchy and has some great little melody riffs. Its a jumpy, happy cute tune with some extra cute sound effects (i especially like the train choo-choo) The bass line and drums are well sequenced and have interesting combinations of well known melody riffs. The chord sequence is a little repeatative as it gets further into the tune and it just switches between 2 chords, with may be a pitch-up dabbed here and there. It ends neatly with a crazy laughing voice. Overall: This mod is not to be taken too seriously and it is quite entertaining. It's got it's fair share of pitch bends, echos and a splash of accents effects here and there, but thats as far as it goes technically. Its quite simply laid out in the tracker and uses some good quality samples. Unfortunatly, some of the voice samples are a too little loud for comfort, but this is a minor problem. Overall: A nice light-hearted entertaining tune successfully incoportaed into a simple tracker routine. |

Basically, its virtuly an exact conversion of the 2Unlimited tribal dance hit "What is love?" and it contains mostly the loops samples from the original. Not much to comment on really since it's hardly original except for a couple of bars where the artist improvises a little section with the piano and bass/drums. It was done for the Amiga, so my guess is that it was long quite a while ago. Overall: Nothing exciting here, maybe a little "samey". However, if you like the 2Unlimited song, then this mod will appeal to you, if not, then take a rain-check. Not much to comment on here either, apart from the sample quality of the vocals and backing, these were reasonable quality. The piano did seema little off tune, and its such a common sample that it gets boring after hearing it used in about 60+ other mods. This mod was written in 4 track protracker on the Amiga, and for that it's quite well done as the samples do loop properly. |

I couldn't help but smile to myself when i heard this, its amazingly cute! The melody is original, happy and light and constanty changes throughout the tune with hardly any repeats (except for a pitch change). Everything about it is just, well, you listen and decide, i personally think its cute and is well worth the marks. The drums are again well suited to the tune and complement the catchy cute accompinent completely. (was that a tongue twister or what?!). However, its a shame it doesnt have an ending, as all it does is fade out, if an equally cute ending had been added, then this would have completed the mod entirly. Overall: A very light hearted happy mod tune which will probably make you smile somewhat. Its a 6 track S3M mod made in 1994, so techically, your getting what was classed as a magnificent achivement back then in a world that technically, its primative. It hardly uses any effects and programming, except for a few panning and echo routines but thats about it. The sample quality is ok and the instruments are well suited to the tune. Overall: simple, but nice. |

This mod is great if you want to sit back and relax after a long stressful day. It mainly focuses on a slow dominant beat which flows slowly along with panpipes, reverse synth sounds, the gentle pattering of tribal drums (well, in the style) and well suited thundery sound effects. The repeative sound that sounds similar to a gentle submarine sonar allows the tune flow very smoothly as it highlights the off beat rhythm. The light pattering of the bass sound gently pulls the repetative progressions throughout the tune. The pan pipes are deliberatly played off-note in certain parts of the tune which helps to create the hypnotic, laid-back atmosphere. Overall: A beautiful tune which is well worth listening to laid back with the lights dimmed. This mod isn't that brilliantly laid out, but its use of light panning and echo effects is great and really does emphasise the atmosphere. The samples are chosen well as far as instumentation is concerened, especially the nice crunchy thunder rumbles. Overall: Nothing to really pick a bone at, as with this type of tune, its slow, repetative and quite soothing, so what else can i say?! It's written how it should be. |

Ok, this piece wasobviously done when the artist was bored (later i found that written in the smaple banks!). Apparently it is suposed to be a version of "Starcon2" which i have no knowledge of. Anyway, the mod begins with a lot of very short looped instruments which actually make it sound like a Commodoer 64 SID tune. I found this mod quite unlistenable as most of the samples sounded like they were playing crashed memory samples. To be quite honest, unless you like the original that this is supposed to be made from, this mod will probably not appeal to you. Overall: If the artist really wanted to do a realstic remix, it would probably have been a good idea if they used to newer samples and added a bit more tune to this. Because at the momemnt, i find it hard to listen as music instead it appears more like noise. Maybe a little more work on it to liven it up with a touch more musicality could be done. Plenty of space for improvment here. Well, what can i say? Ok, to start with, the general layout of the mod was reasonalby good. However, the main point that puts it down is the lack of samples to convey the music. If there were some more samples, and better quality instuments, this mod would be brought to life. As it is, it sounds very flat and does not convey any musical image. If you try loading a text file into a sample bank, that is the sound that the instuments make here. Overall: Good Layout, resonalble use of tracker programming, but is definitly let down by the use/quality of the samples. |

Ok, this mod starts out with a cool synth sample i'd recognise anywhere, yes, its Vangelis. Now after hearing this intro you'd expect it to follow through with similar style, like the Bladerunner music. But no, it doesn't! Instead, it breaks out into a cool funky techno beat with syncopated chords, swirling synth leads and accented percussion. A spectacular chord sequence backs it all which creates a mystical and magical atmosphere around the listener. The melody is wonderful and is complemented by another fast syncopated backing melody. Overall: A brilliant tune with plenty to keep the listener interested. This mod is great if you like fast synth tunes. This mod uses a fair deal of effects programming, but mainly relies on track switching to create echos and accents. In general, the mod is laid out well and plays wonderfully with no bad track looping or sample glitches. The samples used were well suited and chosen well, making the tune stand out from the crowd. Overall: A pleasant and promising mod tune with good use of the avialble track programming resources. |

A fast synthy/techno tune with a great synth melody accompinied by a fast drumming track and step-cutoff synth sounds. Its a great tune with a hint of late 80's synth style incorporated. The drumming sections are brilliant, fast breaks and fill-ins. The bass line and chord sequences are super catchy too. The orchestral hit instument emphasises the breaks/fill-ins and gives the tune a consistent textue throughout. It ends quite suddenly, but at least it has a good ending rather than "fade out" or "slow till stop" Panning, accenting, echoing and good use of samples presents you with a super tune with a great melody. Pitch bends are widley abundant here which is reminiscent of sawtooth synthesizer sounds. Overall: A cool selection of effects and good quality samples certainly do this mod tune justice. A synth tune again, with a mellow and jumpy piano melody. The Chord section is nothing wonderful, but backs the melody sequences well. As the tune progresses futher, new instruments take over the main melody and futher texturing is added. In some places there are 3 independant melodies playing, it can get confusing deciding which one to follow. The chord sequence gets a little repetative towards the end, but a good mix of new ideas on the melody draw your attention away from this (i am imune though hehe) Its not very long, and has a rather poor ending. I mean that by reducing speed until it stops is a really boring way to finish a tune. Overall: If there was more work put into the chordal progressions rather than so much in the texturing of the melody, it would have balanced it well. Also the ending would have been nicer with an "outro", similar to an "intro" but going out rather than comming in. Not a great use of tracking ability, but a simplistic approch as also nice. Sample quality is good, with a good selection of instruments and the percussion is also reasonable. Overall: Nothing technically astouding to talk about, but its a nice simple mod tune with good ideas incorporated for spreading the melody over three instuments. If the artist of this mod gets to know the tracking software a little more, greater things can be accomplished and could possibly give the artist some good future potential for writing cool mod tunes. |

Well, as far as the title goes, its a remix but i havent heard the original so i havent got anything to directly compare it to. But this is what i think - Ok, it starts out with a thin texture of synthy sound effects and progresses into the main body of the tune with crunching synth drums. As far as the whole tune is concerend, the tune is brilliant all the way through! Superb use of synth sounds and drums, the melody and chord is constantly changed thoughout with very FEW repeats. Its a mod that reminds me of how music used to be 5 years ago, with pure genius behind the engineering of proper synth music with original ideas. It's consistant hard work all the way through this mod, and it ends with a good ending too! (yeah, no excuses for lame fade out's here...) Overall: Excellent synth music. This artist KNOWS how to use Screamtracker... :0) I could listen to this over and over again and still find new bits i hadn't heard the previous time round. Guess... go on, guess... well if you read what i said above, then it would probably have to have brilliant engineering, and yes it does. Excellent use of swishing pitch bends, panning, echoing and a feast full of others. Samples of the sounds are a bit low on quality, but this actually adds that extra crunchy atmosphere to a hard synth tune. Overall: superb use of effects, samples and generally shows the pure genius behind the artist's tracking abilities. A recommended download for lovers for synth music of the early 90's. |

This mod starts off with a blowing wind sound effect and pleasent slow piano solo backed by a nice synth strings section. Its mellow, slow and quite captivating. However the piano does get a little repetative towards the middle of the tune. Mind you, the piano does change it's melody in the middle of the tune, BUT it still stays on the same note scale. As the percussion, drums and panpipes are intorduced, the tune gets thicker in texture, but unfortunaly lacks any new ideas as far as melody/chord progression. Shortly after this, the tune fades out and ends. Overall: It starts out wonderful, great. But after a few repeats, its gets a little dry and could be improved here with a better selection of chords and melody. This mod has been written quite well, as the use of tracks here is good, with plently use of programming effects like echo, panning (mainly at the begining with the wind) and a few dashes of pitch bend. These programming effects are quite simple, but create can create a captivating sequence if used correctly. The samples used are clean and suit the tune well, But overall quality of them could have been better. If the tune has more varience then this would have improved matters. I can see that this artist has got great potential for any future mods. |

Title: Wild Thing!!! Filename: wild.s3m |

A so-called remix of the song "Wild Thing" by the Troggs. In short, its an attempt to make a remix of the old tune with a new distorted guitar sound and drun beat. However, when the voice samples are introduced, they have all of the old instrumentation and noise behind them which muffles up the whole song and makes it sound off time. There could have been more attention paid to the drum beat aswell, as it is, the "thump tick, tick tick, thump tick" pattern used which gets annoying and sounds awful along with the over-loud distorted guitar sample. A trying attempt, but honestly, it rapes the original. The tune is let down by the quality of the samples used. If the voice samples were cleaner and not so noisy, then it would have made the tune stand out better. As it is, you can tell that they are samples as you hear the background form the original come in and stomp all over the existing tune. Also, turn your volume down before listening to this one, as the distorted guitar is a little on the loud side. Use of effects/programming, none that i can tell of. Overall: Nice try, but could do, perhaps with a little more programming/tracking knowledge and application, it could be improved ten-fold. |

At last! another mod that is NOT techno! This mod is supposed to creat the effect of gently blowing you though a gust of relaxation, hence the title. It does manage to capture this feeling, quite effectivly. A reasonable use of chord progressions, piano and pipe melody make it a pleasant mod to listen to. However, the chord sequence at the beginning does get a little repetative, but this clears up later in the tune incorporating a new sequence of chords and melody. There is little use of percussion/drums, but this actually helps creat the relaxing effect. Overall: It's simplistic melody and chordal sequences make it a nice and mellow tune to listen to, with a pleasent relaxing effect. Technically, its not that complex. It's got it's share of echos and pitch bends, buts thats as far as the tracker programming goes here. As for the quality of samples, they are good and reasonably clean, each used in an effective and natural way to generate a relaxing atmoshpere. Overall: Simplicity wins again here. A good tune is made from a combination of simple programming and a resonable feel for music. |

This mod is an interpretation of an existing theme tune, the Terminator film music. However, this is a cool dance remix with a great thumping beat with a brilliant panning chord syncopation sequence. Typical of electronic music, the techno beat and bass sounds are all fitted together around a standard 4/4 beat. Some new melody riff have been introduced aswell giving the tune it's slight uniqueness from all the other remixes i have heard (there arn't that many either). Overall: If you like techno music, then this mod is for you. Uses quite a few programming tricks to make this a great mod to listen to. Panning, echoing and syncopating being the main effects here. The samples are electronic, synthesized and are used exaclty how they should be, no compliants there. as far as the la out of the mod, the tracks are well alid out neatly hardly any messy cross-over sequences (so virtually each part of the music has it's own track). Overall: Well programmed, written well and generates a great effect on the listener. Hopefully we'll see more good stuff like this from the artist soon. |

This mod starts out with series of riffs playing over a piano chord section. The chord section is quite repetative at the beginning and could possible have a little more done to it to improve it (such as a little syncopation). There is little melody to this apart from a series of apreggiated patterns playing over the top. Unfortunalty the tune stays on the same note and chord sequence virtually all the way though. The ending is not much to speak for, just a slowing of the piano melody all the way to a stop fading out the backing at the same time. Overall: If a little more attenetion was given to the tonality of the tune, im sure it would sound a lot better. A few extra chord progressions and a more explorative melody would have given it a great boost. As it is though, a reasonalby good mod file. Not bad this one actually. Great use of all the available channels (4 in this case) although very little use of the tracker programming techniques. I believe that this was made on an Amiga quite a while ago. That probably explains why the sound samples used sound so familiar (I know i have heard them in about 20+ other mods before). Overall: a well made mod file given the technical limitiations. A little dash of programming effects would have been nice though. |

This mod is beautifully written, its slow pipes and strings mixed in with Irish folk riffs make this mod a wonderful piece to listen to, specially if your into this type of music. The mod also uses again original melody without too many repeats, However, the drums do get a little repetitive towards the end. But the tune as a whole is bang on when it comes to the use of instruments. The tune also has a story which you can read, and the tune has been written beautifully around the story. If you read it while playing you really do get captured and captivated by the music. This mod is part of a trilogy by the same artist, each with a different part of the story. Also see: "Moors of Ireland" (w-moi.it) and another called "Whistler's Bride". All are a recommended download. Again, this mod simply takes full advantage of pitch bends and accents to make the riffs stand out just as they should do with this type of music. After writing several Irish pieces of music, i certainly know when someone has gone to a lot of trouble to make the tune stand out from a crowd. The samples are good quality and are used in the correct manor in every way. This artist has great future potential. I suggest you check out his other work. |

Ok, This mod starts of with a cool church/cathedral organ playing the all well know tune, The Wedding March. After a few bars of playng this, the tune take a full 360 degree turn and starts a funky techno beat with superb fill-ins. I swear i have played this over and over about 8 times just becuase it was catchy. The Techno beat, bass line syncopated and appregiated chords sound brilliant. This is a semi-pro sounding mod which gives a new face to the Wedding March tune. It's catchy and sounds wonderful. Overall: The artist of this mod has gone to great length to make this mod appeal to a wide audience. A must for Download! Technically this mod isn't that complex when you break it down to the tracker commands it uses. However, the syncopted chords bring the whole song to life. Sample quality is not a problem here, the artist has used reasonably good samples which are mellow and warm, these suit the tune in every way. The instruments used compliment each other, there is just the right amount of accompinent which is great, without it the tune would have sounded empty and boring. Overall: Simplicity mixed with great musical ability is clearly present here. We will hopefully see more great tunes from the artist with similar quality. |

This Mod starts out quite good with a promising progression of chords and drum beat. It sounds rather like the type of tune you would get while waiting for a Golf game to load. Its a nice mellow background piece with pleasant instruments. As the tune gets into the middle part of it's playing time, it does start to get a little repetative with the same chord sequence. Gladly your attenton is pulled away from this by an interesting melody sequence. Overall: A reasonably good tune with potential of a little more improvement bass/chord wise. Great use of drums here, nice catchy beat. This module has quite a simple structre thoughout with not many of the tracker's resources being used. Its a 14 track XM module, but i don't think all 14 tracks are used to their full potential, as there could be a lot more accompinent and melodic variences incorporated here. Overall: A resonably well engineered mod, simple and clean. Thats a lot better than writeing a tune that is complex and baldy done. Quality, not quantity! |

This mod is another interpretation of "Waiting for You..." The song begins with some nice DX electric piano sounds playing the melody, later the drums are intorduced along with a bass line. Ok, this is a better than average remix of this song that i have heard. However there are a few things that stand out that culd be imporved. The bass line, well, it's boring. Just flat notes all the way through, it would be nice if a pattern was applied to the bass line to make the tune flow more easiliy. The melody (like in all rock/ballad songs) repeated thoughout over and over again. It gets too repetitive after a while. Also, the mod doesnt actually end, it fades out... but overall this does sound like a nice interpretation of the original song, and could be improved easily. Not much technical programming went into this, as of course its a beat by beat song which pronounces it's melody on nearly every synchonised beat. The sample quality is good, but a wider accompinent would have made the tune stad out a little more. To replace vocals with a melody instumant, means that you have to make an extra special effort of the backing instuments to give feeling to the song. As you can not really give a sampled instument the same quialities as a human voice. Overall: as promising Impulse tracked module with room for improvment. The artist of this mod certainly looks like they know the basics of the tracking software and could probably get more out of it's features. |

A remix of the Oasis song "WonderWall", Now, from a personal point of view, i hate all Oasis music, well at least that was what i felt before i heard this Protracker Mod file. The backing and drumming mixing to this mod is exceptionally good with perfect looping. The added accompinent gave a good boost to the tune emphasizing the melody and chord sequences. There are also some new sequences introduced at the beginning of the mod and also a little further into the song, giving it a definite remix style. Overall: An excellent remix of the song. The artist must have gone to some length to ensure perfect sample looping. Although its huge in size, the sample quality is very good, even thought they are 8 bit. The majority of the mod file is the vocals which take up 25%(ish) of the tracks available (with mod file you only get 4 tracks to play with). Special attention was given to the speed that the mod played at to ensure that the samples, drum beat and bass line were all synchronised. Overall: Not a techinally difficult mod file, as it mainly compromises of looped samples. On the other hand, it does sound pretty good. Artist: Please note though in future, that using parts of commercial songs is breech of copyright, and you leave yourself wide open for prosecuton! beware, be careful! |

This mod is catchy, cute and great with the dynamics whammed up. Its very pop/techno like with a great melody and superb jumpy chord sequence. The use of short snappy samples give a fresh feel to the music. Although it does sound "computer-generated". The melody isn't that repetative with some cool ideas brought in as the mod progresses. Overall: I like this mod, and if you'r into cute techno music which leans slightly to the "C64 sound" era, then this mod is for you. Uses nearly every trick in the book to make this a great mod to listen to. Although it's a 4 track mod (yeah i said 4 tracks!) it demonstrates the use of fast dynamic accenting, dampening,"echoing", pitch beding etc.. The sample quality is somewhat poor when you play the individual smaples, but when they are combined into the song, they sound great, lively and full of life. An excellent job done by the artist/s, these guys obvioulsy know their way around tracking software. |

Well, this mod is basically a sung song by the artist/s along with a piano chord section. To be quite honest, the song would have sounded a lot better with a tad bit more accompininet, because the piano playing the repeative chord sequence get very very annoying... The word used in this song are great and touching, its just that it really really needs more instruments playing to push the song though. Such as a soft strings section and a bass line. Overall, this mod does have potential, but as it is; it's backing tune is annoying. If the artist could do some more work on this i'm sure we'd here a great song come out. More instumentation will certinly make the words jump right out at you so that your listning to them, rather than that repetitive backing. Well, the artist who sung the words certainly made a good recording of the vocals as there is hardly any noise on them. The use of tracking resources is poor. More accompinent would have made this much better. However, the artist did use echoing effects and some small accenting/dampening effects to emphasize the vocals in certain parts of the song. Overall: Great song with a wonderful word. It's a shame the backing lets it down so much. If it was sorted out, you'd have a beautiful music piece. |

Well, this mod is NOT another interpretation of a well known song, but a mod with an original melody track. The bass and drums are nicely written out to give a catchy feeling to the tune. Overall: A cute mod with good potential considering the limitation of 4 tracks to a .mod file. A good selection of samples considering it's age (1991), i have heard the others in many many mod files before. The artist of this mod makes good use of all 4 tracks to give a large enough accompinent with the melody to push it all the way through the tune without being too repetative. A different selection of samples would have been nice, but again they do justice to the tune as they are. One aspect that lets it down is that it doesnt actually end. I belive this was originally programed on an Amiga, as i think there was a loop command near the end of the mod to allow continuous play. Overall a pleasant mod to listen to. |

This mod is simply great, its combination of fast Irish accordions and pipes along with the typical riffs that signature Irish like music make this mod a wonderful piece to listen to, especially if your into this type of music. The mod also uses original melody without too many repeats, which pulls it clear away from the annoying category, which is common these days for a lot of mods i have listened to. Great! simply takes full advantage of pitch bends and accents to make the riffs stand out just as they should do with this type of music. After writing several Irish pieces of music, I certainly know when someone has gone to a lot of trouble to make the tune stand out from a crowd. The samples are good quality and are used in the correct manor in every way. This artist has a great future potential. Revisit 2007: Still one of the best there is in this genre on the archive. The entire trilogy is very much worth getting. |
