____________________________________________________________________ | | | Saga Musix presents: Heaven (3:17) | |____________________________________________________________________| Oh, it's that time of year again - Evoke! And actually, it's the day before Evoke starts and so far I only have a 99% finished tune for the streamed music compo (didn't pass pre-selection, though) and about nothing for my "home compo", the tiny tracking music compo. So, let's do it Saga style and make a trance track in an afternoon! Yep, that's pretty much about it. Some weeks ago, I have listened to a lot of music by Audioplacid and I enjoyed it a lot. One of his tracks, "Heaven", has a really nice breakdown part with a great chord progression. So I played it on my Yamaha AN1x and recorded it into OpenMPT. And then I dug this recording up and made a more complete track out of it, although I had to drop all the nice filter modulations and echos from it so that it would fit into the size limit. Then I quickly added some cheesy melodies and other stuff and it quickly evolved... Still, I have to say that the tune sounds pretty raw and unfinished (thus it's only 38 channels this time ;-) and I don't really like the outcome. I'm not quite sure how this tune could win the compo actually, but apparently it did and that's something that probably should not have happened at all. Oh well... For the reference, the original tune by Audioplacid can be found at http://soundcloud.com/audioplacid/audioplacid-feat-marilyn Since my chord progression is almost identical to the one in his breakdown part, I decided to use the same name for my tune, just so that it's clear that it's "kind of" a remix. This is obviously the uncompressed, full-size version of the tune. The compo version was heavily compressed using mo3 to fit in the 64k limit. Now you can enjoy the tune with full quality samples, but still trimmed down patterns! :) And now for a short party report: Evoke 2012 was a blast. Great weather, great people, and words are not enough to describe how awesome the live gig by cTrix was - Man, you really know how rock a crowd with your Amigas! I'm looking forward to enjoy even more gigs from you at future demo parties! ;) And well, the most unique thing of this whole party was probably that I finally met Chris Hülsbeck in real life and had a quick chat with him - I wonder where we all would be today if he didn't write his tracker tools in the 80s! Now someone should actually drag Karsten Obarski to a demo party - after all, we have to think him for the MOD format as we know it (more or less) today.
