I was literally mind-boggled upon not finding this gem already in the ModArchive - it's a solid classic that I've had in my collection of favorite MODs since the mid-90's. This song is a minimalist masterpiece, using only one sample in 8 channels to create a simple multilayered melody that has both immediate and lasting appeal. At only 32 KB in file size, I doubt there is more musical bang for the buck extant. |

Let's see, this song has remained one of my favorites for over a decade, so anything less than a 10/10 would be a travesty. Truly a classic that withstands the test of time, and I concur with Dan - this is his Magnum Opus. |

Great chiptune from waaaay back. I first heard it included with a fun game on the Mac, Maniac. http://macintoshgarden.org/games/maniac This game had a rockin' soundtrack, including staples such as Crystalhammer (CRYSTALH.MOD) - I believe it used the PlayerPro module plugin, authored by Antoine Rosset, so every song was in the MOD format - and since they weren't packed into a binary, you could actually listen to them whenever you wanted with a MOD player. Maniac was a neat little Pac Man clone with a hangman feature built in so that if you ate a certain orb moving around the screen, you could try to solve the word, and if solved, the level was completed (sort of akin to the Golden Snitch in Harry Potter). If you like this song, also check out Android Rupture, another neat chip tune by Baroque of Freelance. |

This is a classic module that is little known due to it not having any artist attribution, but it's definitely catchy! With it's pop/rock sound and twangy synths, it's a very listenable tune for being a 4 channel MOD. Back in the mid-90's it was noteable as being the main overworld theme in the hugely popular Macintosh adventure/role-playing game Realmz by FantaSoft (Tim Phillips). The most popular tracking software for the Mac at the time was PlayerPro by Antoine Rosset. He produced a very popular MOD player plugin that was used by a lot of game developers, including FantaSoft. The PlayerPro tracker remains one of the most feature-rich trackers to this day, with a variety of editor display formats including the classic tracker pattern note row/channel column view, and the musical notation view. PlayerPro exists to this day on SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/playerpro/ Realmz has long since been ported to the PC, and remains a highly addictive and fun game. Tim Phillips developed a scenario creation application (Divinity) which allows anyone to create a scenario (essentially it's own game using the Realmz engine) with its own world, plotline, bestiary, and items. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realmz |

libmodplug (as of version 0.8.8.4) silences a channel when S99 (sound control effect: reverb on) is applied because the reverb sound effect does not work. If you simply delete the very first row of pattern 0, then the song will play with any player that uses libmodplug. Of course, without reverb, it isn't quite the same, but still an extraordinary song. FYI - I am the member that wrote the original review for this song, which now appears as submitted via a placeholder account. Modsrule! Title: technostyle iii
Filename: techno3.mod
Rated 8 / 10
It brings back the nostalgia of it being packaged with Bunny Killer III, a classic Macintosh 68K game. For me it brings back fond memories of unloading on a shooting gallery of radioactive rabbits between classes.
It pairs well with other similar arpeggio style pop/techno MODs, such as Android Rupture and Freefall by Baroque.
