Title: I'LL COME FOR YOU...

A ballad with some serial-killer samples in the background. Almost funny, then you realise the song's about 3 minutes long - not so funny. The joke wears thin. Not worth listening to a second time. Unfortunately, these melodies could have been used in a good song. A piano sample cuts blatantly at the start, and nothing happens from then on to really redeem this tune. The sample quality is low, and some hanging samples are badly in need of fadeout. Certainly not the quality expected of an .xm format song.

Bad musical sense is displayed in this attempt to mix presampled melodies with a few bits of a drumkit. The result is repetetive, cliche, and very amateur. This is unfortunate, since the sampled melody is cute. C'mon Y'all! ...The sampled melody doesn't mix at all with the drumkit. There is one decent drum loop, but this hardly makes up for the obnoxiously loud bass drum sample. The song as a whole is very amateur-sounding.

When I listened to this mod, I felt like I was playing One Must Fall, and suddenly felt the need to do Jaguar's overhead throw. The style is so similar that it's uncanny. However, the melody at 0:45 is extremely amateur, and this is where the similarity ends. The amateur melody then repeats and leads into another bad section. Akuma Pan is capable of much better; I'm not sure what was going on here. The execution is good. If this piece was meant to be an imitation of a style, then it deserves an excellent rating. However, since this was probably not the intent, I feel that Akuma Pan's effort must be panned (ha, ha). Nothing special technically, samples are old; in fact, it sounds like the sample set was directly copied from the OMF menu-song.

The coolest thing about this song is the title. The least cool thing about this song is that it last *9 minutes*, and they all sound the same. The same 4/4 type beat is repeated for the whole song (or at least as much as I could listen to), there are no significant dynamics, and the bit at 4:00 that sounded like it would be fast and cool ended up being fast and crappy, though the guitar solo was fun. This song lacks the professional quality you expect from an .XM format song. The samples are all old-school .mod type (we've all heard that lead guitar before). The proliferation of pitch-bends in this song don't make up for the sample quality.

A nice light feel, no rush to this tune. A good relaxed groove for listening, but Akuma Pan should have been more adventurous and explored some more. More rhythmic variety is needed to make this song truly captivating. The chords are nice and show a mature musical sense. The counter-chords near the end are great. The beginning and end are well-executed and show the light touch necessary for a subtle piece. The entire piece is well-balanced and the samples are nearly without fault. The technical work complements the mood quite well. However, there is nothing technically stunning, only enough to support the song.

Interesting with some good experimentation. The melodies are repeated just a little too much at times, but usually a sudden break happens just when it seems that things were going to get boring. Some interesting melodies and textures. This makes a good first listen, but when the surprise wears off it'll be less impressive. The drumloops are excellent in this song. Some other samples are quite good too - the sweeping sine waves and the saxophone for example. However, the bass sample at 1:30 was painful, interfering with what could have been an interesting section. Some obvious technical ability, though.

The intro to this song is confusing at first, then surprising when the drumloop comes in. This tune contains some interesting chords and use of different rhythms, but it lacks a real melody until about 2:40. There isn't enough of a theme, and the ending is bad. This piece is interesting on the first listen but has some definite flaws. The drumloops are well executed throughout the song and give a good light feel to the backing track. The analog samples become annoying in parts, mostly because they are balanced too loud. There are some interesting background effects used in this song. Overall the technical side of this song is good, but not spectacular.

A majestic organ solo begins this song. This is followed by a slightly sub-par connecting section which quickly leads into the main mod. However, the choruses at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 are excellent, full of energy, and are the best parts of the song (notice the great sliding bassline). The song overall is well-arranged and alternates well between the "classic mod" and other timbres. Counterpoint has put all 4 channels to good use in this tune. However, some samples are not quite up to scratch, and better volume balance would have helped this tune (at times the melody is too quiet). The fade at the end is not particularly well-executed.

This is a poor transcription of the original song. Unfortunately, it's not sufficient to just get the sheet music and copy it into mod format. Not enough attention was paid in this song to dynamics, balance, and other musical factors, though tempo seems to have been observed. The overall effect is to make the mod sound boring and certainly not worth 6 minutes of anyone's time. It pains me to say that this mod seems to have no redeeming technical qualities whatsoever. Samples cut at inappropriate times and have very obvious loops, clicks and pops abound. Even the modest technical abilities of the original MOD format are not even approached by this song. An extreme disappointment.

This is a very creative tune with a good introduction. The use of the SFX at the beginning and ending and the cymbal throughout the song are both good musically. The song is somewhat repetetive, however. It is also disappointingly short and never reaches a main melodic climax, which would have really made this a top-notch song. However, it is still excellent mood music. The challenging intro and ending are well done, and the sound effects are executed perfectly. Overall this is a technically tight mod, but a little more ambience could have been used (perhaps putting the cymbal rolls in stereo) to really enhance the mood.

This piece should have been given more musical attention while it was being written. The introduction suddenly dies out to a totally different mid-section (a transition that doesn't work at all). After far too many repetitions of the mid-section, another bad silence leads back into the 'A' section, with some bad harmonies overlaid. There were some good harmonies in the middle (B) section, but overall this piece is musically all over the map. The main bass drum is too loud, but most of the other samples are acceptable. The drumloop sounds good as does the bass in the second 'A' section. However, this mod is more speed than skill.

A nice crisp, upbeat dance tune. The guitar solos are nice to listen to and overall the tune is nicely arranged. The flute-like melody is extremely happy and upbeat, but it works. Backgrounds are well balanced in this song. Panning is used well and the main beat of the song is unobtrusive as it should be in this type of piece. Overall a strong technical effort by Elwood.

This ambient/melodic tune has some good passages but also falls short in some parts. The silence at 2:00 doesn't fit properly with the rest of the song. The melodies also contain some wonky notes. This also happens to be one of those obnoxious infinitely-looping songs that seems to just end suddenly when played outside of FT2 (though the loop doesn't sound that good anyway). The flute samples are okay at times and annoying at others. This song could have been much more enjoyable if the artist had put time in to make it more ambient. This is a song that needs to have depth to work properly, but instead it is panned mostly toward the centre with few echoes.

This piece does a perfect job of creating mood. The ambience is good and the harmonies used by Akuma Pan are excellent. The song flows well from start to end. My only complaint is that there isn't more of this song to listen to - a great deal of the 3:27 is taken up by intro and fade. It could've easily been carried longer and been excellent. The samples used are good and don't have any obvious flaws. The bass sample is excellent and the beat is well done. It's difficult to execute a soft, ambient tune properly and Akuma Pan has done quite a good job. With the use of a little more effects, the song could have really "surrounded" the listener.

This song is interesting since the bass seems to carry what there is of a melody at times. Some of the harmonies in this song are a little strange, but the overall effect is good. The ending section is creative but risky; it's hard to tell whether it really worked or not. The samples used are adequate, however there are a couple parts where the technical quality falls just short of semi-pro. The initial entry of the high melody nearly works, but could have been better. Overall a good effort technically.

MELCOM has made a fairly decent first attempt at an experimental mod with this song. It flows for the most part, but the guitar melodies in the second half contain some odd notes. Unfortunately, the key to experimental music - unexpected beauty - is not fully present in this tune. The ending could or would have been better without the guitar melody. The samples work fairly well and several effects are well-executed, however there is nothing technically brilliant about this mod. The execution is acceptable and supports the ideas properly.

This tune has the "classic" mod style that some of us live for. The song itself is well-arranged and flows well. There's good use of dynamics. However, the song is far too short and suffers from a lack of direction. The melodies are forgettable and it lacks a good hook. Skaven would have done well to keep this one brewing a little longer before release. The technical side of this mod cannot be criticized. Though not quite as professional-sounding as some XMod's, this is certainly at the top of the scale as far as S3M's go. The dynamics and vibratos are executed well. A richer sound would have given this mod a better technical rating.

Whatever musical merit this song may have had, you'll forget it by the time you've listened to 8 and a half minutes of the same thing. The melody is so simple that even playing it twice is bordering on too much. It takes this song 5 minutes before anything resembling a bridge section occurs. The bits of space in the phrases at the beginning make the mod sound very amateur. However, the echo effects and backing beat are acceptable (for a 4-track mod), and there are no major problems with the samples.

The song has a fairly nice chord progression; Akuma Pan obviously has some natural musical talent. However, the song repeats elements too much and by the end has become somewhat boring. Some sort of solo or bridge section may have helped this tune a great deal. The origin of the title is an absolute mystery to me. There are no major technical deficiencies with this mod; however, there's nothing technically spectacular about it either. The samples are adequate and the lead sample is unobtrusive. It seems that the artist concentrated on the technical aspect of this mod just enough to support the melody, no more.

This song has good melodies; the last quarter of the song is absolutely super! The song is well-arranged and feels fresh the whole way through. The balance is good. This is truly a "songwriters' song". The classic space sound really works well with the XMod format. The samples are well-chosen and the effects (such as panning and echo) are well executed. The only technical weak spot is that the panning seems to be right-heavy for the whole song. However, this is a small matter in comparison to the good technical skills displayed in this piece.

This song starts of with a good intro and sounds like it's building towards an excellent dance tune. However, out of nowhere an obnoxious vocal sample appears and ruins the tune entirely. When I first heard this song I honestly thought somebody had tampered with it. It's unfortunate because the chord progressions and main hook are good, and though the song is repetetive, it could have easily been much, much better. A terrible disappointment. The vocal sample is of terrible quality (distorted) and is poorly inserted into the song, making the entire mod sound completely amateur. DJ SaHel seems capable of a great deal more technically, since the the backing tracks are quite well executed. Perhaps this is a sample of his girlfriend or something.
