The feel of this song reminds me of the great old tune "Low Rider." It's a very good start... a great foundation on which to build "Big Bag O' Skunk 2." As it is, there just aren't enough changes or contrasting melodies. The samples are pretty cool. No annoying or ear-hurting ones. The instrumentation fits the music well. It's well-produced overall... great use of stereo. Not overdone at all, just an effective way to keep the low melody and the high melody that mimics it separate.

This is kind of laid back, but very catchy. It slowly evolves, one good melody after the other. New melodies come and go, never to be heard again. I normally don't like that sort of arrangement, but it seems to work well here. Points off for lack of hi-hat and cymbals. It's enjoyable -- nothing spectacular but not too bad either. "Solid" is a good word. Good samples, the drums are huge. Great blend of instruments -- they convey the feel of the music well. Very small filesize at 37k.

Great beat! The intro and ending are fantastic, as are some of the breaks during the song. The melody blends well with the fast tempo of the rhythm section. All the samples are excellent. With the exception of the high-pitched "pinging" voice I hear (something like a pizzicato violin being played out of range?) the instrumentation is top-notch. Very good mix -- I can hear everything from the bass to the hi-hat without having to intentionally listen for it.

This is fantastic! Very, very fun to listen to. The banjo part sounds like it was written like a banjo player... very well done. There is a rave section near the middle of the song that could be omitted (it's a big-time low point in my opinion) but even that is pretty good. The ending is abrupt and could use some work. The intro is great, and the banjo tracks rule. The vocals are well done except for the rave section, where they become indecipherable. Very good drums. I recommend downloading this MOD just because it's fun.

This song has a lot of feel and some catchy ideas. Great job creating suspense and tension near the end of the song... sounds like it could be used as the soundtrack to an underground world in a Super Mario Brothers game. The intro is great, but the ending is abrupt and could be better. Musical ideas are presented cleanly and effectively and the song never gets cluttered. Reviewer dfensman The stereo and effects are subtle, but they're effective. The thing I like most about this MOD is that it's not too busy. Musical ideas are presented cleanly and effectively and the song never gets cluttered.

This song has some of the best drums I've ever heard in a MOD. Unfortunately, the same (fantastic) beat is repeated ad-nauseum throughout the song, except for occasionally stopping altogether. The melody never seems to change; always the same basic chord progression. If this had a few contrasting parts to go along with the great atmosphere and feel of what's here, it would be one of the best MODs in the archive. I could live without the vocals. Other than that, this MOD sounds great. In a word: drums!

There are some very catchy ideas here, but they lose their appeal because the song is too repetitious. Even when it does change, it sounds pretty much the same. Also, the kick drum sounds great... but there are no hi-hat, symbols or snare. With a full "set" of drums, this would be a much better MOD. There are some very good samples, some not so good. The bass drum sounds great! Using a "claps" sample instead of a snare drum is ineffective at best. 5 minutes is much too long for this song, because there aren't enough individual musical ideas to support it and keep it interesting. But hey, it's only 42k!

This is a fun MOD. It has a great beat, and kind of a "hectic" (psycho?) feel. The intro and the laughing sample are hilarious. There are some very well-concieved breaks and changes. My only beef music-wise is that the composition lacks cohesion, in that once a motif ends it never returns. Still, that's quite preferable the opposite extreme.... being too repetitious. That laugh sample rules! The other samples are ok. There's not a whole lot here in the way of stereo or effects, but I think it's a pretty good MOD just the same.

Great beat, solid melody, good thick atmosphere. Not too sure about the incredibly fast drum roll half way through... seems VERY out of place in this song. The composition could use some changes. What would be nice is some contrasting parts to offset the main theme, which is repeated too much because there aren't enough other parts. Great blend of instruments. The piano and string samples are very good. The drum samples sound great too, and the drum line is written very well -- except for the nuclear-powered drum roll half way through :)

Most of the ideas are good, though they are hurt by some questionable sample selections (more on that in the Tech section). I would have liked to hear more drums and less "other stuff"... I say other stuff because I'm not exactly sure what it is I DO hear. I just know I wish it were drums. Most of the samples are good, but there are two terrible ones: the "orchestra hit" and the "claps." Those two samples are horrendous. This would be a much better MOD without them. Lots of sound for 29k though.

This is a moderately enjoyable trip down memory lane. It is a VERY stripped-down version of an 80's pop tune... you'll recognize it the second you hear it. If you think you'll get a kick out of the nostalgia or the novelty, it's worth downloading. Otherwise, don't bother. The good news is it's only 13k. The bad news is, it SOUNDS like it's only 13k. The drums are hard to hear. This MOD lacks dynamics or production value of any kind.

This is one novel attempt! It's not dead-on, but it's damn good and a heck of a lot closer than I would have come. The drums are great... you have to hear it to believe it. As I said, it's not dead on... but expecting that would be naive and getting it this close is quite an accomplishment. The samples range from good to great. Sometimes the guitar samples don't cut the mustard for the parts they're used on. It would take a ton of different samples to fix that though -- more than I would want to mess with. Great job on the solos... this must have been one heck of a tracking experience! This would take me weeks. It's the kind of thing where I say "Hey, it would be cool to... NAHHHH!" If you are even a borderline Metallica fan, download this. I don't think you'll find many Metallica MODs that rank with it.

This is like something an off-the-wall, futuristic "oom-pah" band might play (or maybe Devo). It has a quirky, industrious feel. Unfortunately, it never seems to get off the ground.... it seems like a 3-minute intro. The break at the beginning is very cool, never heard it done like that before. The main samples are unspectacular, nothing great. Some of the sound fx near the end of the song are cool -- they sound like something out of Star Wars.

This is basically the same song the original, with the exception that there's a full set of drums being used now. So, that part's much improved. But that "singing" is still quite a drawback. The music is ok, but nothing extraordinary and certainly not worth enduring that repetitious voice. That spoken-word thing has to go. Some of the samples are decent, but overall I wouldn't recommend downloading this.

This MOD is extremely repetitious, and the "singing" is terribly annoying. Also, the only drum used is the bass drum.. not one snare, cymbal or tom. The synth voice could be better, could be worse. Once the novelty wears off of the "singing", all it does is irritate. In my opinion, this is an incomplete MOD... there's a reason songs aren't released with just the bass drum as the entire drum line: it's boring.

This sounds like it could be the theme from a horror movie, or a television show like Millennium. My only complaint is that there's not enough changes to support the 5 minute run time. It could be a 1 minute loop and the listener wouldn't miss much! The music is definitely haunting though, and there's a cool break in the middle. The samples are very unusual, and very effective. The constant, predictable stereo movement is rather annoying, especially at the end of the song.

Why this thing is almost 5 minutes long, I have NO idea. It is repetitious and anti-climactic. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The mix is all wrong. You can barely hear the bass for most of the song, and the "beepy beepy beepy" noise is much too loud. The samples, all by themselves, aren't that bad. Overall, I have to say this is not a very good MOD.

Great job all around. All of the samples are good. There are some squeaks and whistles I never would have tried to such a musical way, but jester makes them sound great. I have to give this one an A for effort. I used to play this song in my band, and based on that I'm sure it isn't an easy song to track in MOD form. That having been said, MODs like this shouldn't be released to the general public. I would only recommend this to the most rabid Green Day fan. The rhythm guitar sound is pretty good. However, that sound should NOT be used to track lead parts. A lead guitar sample (one note at a time, not a sampled chord) should be used for that.

This MOD features some very interesting drums a good, borderline-neoclassical melody. Unfortunately, the arrangement just consists of variations on a single theme. Individual components of that theme fade in and out, and there are breaks occasionally which give the piece a more theatrical feel. Overall, it's just too repetitive for my liking. I really like the electric guitar solo at about the half-way point. I believe it may have been taken from the KISS song of the same name. The other samples are all pretty good.

Good beat, but a well-placed "boom, bat, boom, bat" would have provided great contrast and made things a little more interesting. The instruments are ok. This song is like an Atari game gone terribly awry. I just realized that it's a loop -- I guess I can stop wondering why it's so long :) The instruments aren't great, but I honestly think they fit the music well. The loop is done well; undetectable unless you watch the "time elapsed" indicator. I like the change in snare drum sounds near the half-way point -- a good, subtle change of atmosphere done in an unusual way.

The lead parts aren't bad, pretty catchy. I like the glass harmonica (but moderation is the key). The bass line never seems to change. When it does, it just stops and then resumes doing the same thing it was before. The samples are good quality-wise. I would have stayed away from the "ahh" voice. The glass harmonica part is pretty cool but I think there's a bit too much of it. Maybe playing the same part with a different instrument some of the time would have shaken things up a bit.

Cool beat, but the song is way too short (Boomerang knew that). There's not much in the way of melody either, but it's a good raver in an understated sort of way. I like the ending, it's very unique. I don't have any complaints about the production value of this MOD, despite the composer's assertion that "it's not made properly." My biggest complaint is that it's so short (1mn13s), but it works well as a loop. Also, short MODs often have puny file sizes -- this one is 68k.

Catchy song with a good beat. It borders on a nightbeat feel sometimes. "The Vision" is a good title for for this tune -- the music is very peaceful and inspirational. The mix is a little low, but that's better than if it were a little loud in this case. Most of the samples sound like standard sound bank stuff, but they fit the music very well. Cool stereo effects -- they make the music seem to surround you.

This MOD is well-named... it sounds like a temper tantrum thrown by an irrational brat. It has thunderous bass and a rip-your-head-off tempo. Parts are repetitious, but those happen to be the best parts. Sometimes repetitiveness is the hallmark of a relentless, merciless, ass-kicking piece of music. This is one of those times. All good samples. Not much in the way of effects or stereo, but this isn't a fancy MOD anyhow. This is straight-through-that-brick-wall music, and the production follows suit. This is a tough MOD to review. I believe all of the samples have been ripped right off of the Simpsons' CD. The music is very good, but am I reviewing the people on the original or the person who made this MOD? Anyway... the music, whomever wrote it, is a catchy and well-written funk groove. Not much to say technically, the samples are clean. It sounds to like the composer just ripped the CD and rearranged the song. Big sound for 240k.

This is a genuine attempt at tracking classical music, and not a half bad one. It has catchy, interwoven melodies and no breaks to speak of -- baroque to a "t". It is pretty repetitious, and lacks the key changes which have been used throughout history to breathe life into compositions such as this. The pipe organ section at the end is very cool. While there are some instruments here which I do not believe would have been used during the baroque period, (I think I hear an electric guitar!) the mix of instruments is quite pleasant. Cool use of stereo at the end to separate the different melodies of the pipe organ and make them stand out. If you're into classical, you will probably want to download this MOD.

I like the ending, sudden yet well done. The majority of the samples are very good, but there is a snare sound near the end that I don't care for. Also, some of the vocal samples do not contribute much and would not be missed if they were removed. The trance section at the end makes good use of stereo and effects. Not too bad, kinda catchy. There is some extremely profane language here. The composer went overboard on the heavy breathing, whips, etc. The singing voice is very cool -- more of that would have been nice. I had to shave off a point or two because it's too long and too repetitive. Some of the samples are out of place, the "laser beams" and the "car" for instance. The real tragedy is that the over-the-top whipping noises and other novelties overshadow a rather catchy dance mix.

This is one unique MOD! The intro and the ending are great, as are most parts in between. The main theme before the break is rather repetitious, but from there on out it's one interesting, mind-bending twist after another. The backward (I presume) sample in the intro is fantastic, and the rest are as well. Excellent choices where instrumentation is concerned. Seemingly unrelated musical ideas fade seamlessly in and out of the mix during the interlude (near the middle of the song). The effects are very subtle yet very effective.

Percussion is the highlight of this song. I think there are some very solid musical ideas too, but they have not been well implemented; questionable instrumentation detracts from an otherwise solid musical composition. As I said, the drums and percussion are great. However, the "bottle blower" track is much too notey, to the point of being annoying. Bottle blowers generally play long, droning notes, not intricate lead parts. Also, some of the samples are out of tune with each other.

Parts of this song are very good, but the overall composition is difficult to follow. Some of the melodies are too complex, which renders them un-memorable. On the plus side, there are some very cool syncopations and harmonies, the likes of which the average MOD does not offer. The mix of instruments is bizarre. The "bottle blower" sample, used in this way, is annoying. Also, while the syncopated rhythms are cool, there is no consistency to the song. It is a busy, herky-jerky delivery. I would suggest some kind of an underlying rhythm that keeps things grounded better.

This is a very rhythmic MOD. It is short, and for a good reason -- it consists entirely of variations on a single theme. That single theme happens to be a solid and catchy one, but I think a departure or two would have done the overall composition a lot of good. In short, I think this would be a great foundation on which to build a more complete composition. The samples are nothing to write home to ma about, but I get the feeling they were what the composer wanted. They fit the mood of the piece well. It's pretty straightforward technically, no effects to speak of.

This MOD starts out purely rhythmic, with just drums and bass. It gradually (but not TOO gradually) develops a great melody as well. I especially like the understated acoustic guitar and piano parts. A chorus of "ahhhhhs" is used to thicken the atmosphere, with great effect. All great samples, and ones you don't hear every day. This MOD has tons of stereo activity. Vocal sampes are present but not overbearing -- they help keep things interesting without distracting from or overshadowing the other instruments.

Very unique and melodic. The acoustic and lead guitar parts are great. The ending is abrupt, but this is still an exceptional song overall. It sounds to me as if a LOT of time went into sampling the guitars for this -- with great results. The arpeggios in the middle of the song are well done until mayhem ensues. The beginning is interesting... I think I hear static from a record player in the background. The drums are rather weak in places, but the strings are fantastic and the overall composition is as well. Very interesting choices where instrumentation is concerned. All of the samples are good or better. As I mentioned above, the strings are great. On the downside, there are a few too many drum roll swells -- one is really enough for any song.
