There are some great ideas here, but the song overall lacks cohesion. It's too busy. The thunder effects are cool, and the keys are very well written. My main gripe is that the bass and the hi-hat are both played on the upbeat throughout the song. That would be fine in small doses, but by the end of the song it gets old. Very cool thunder and wind samples, as well as some sort of a "rocketship" sound. The drum roll swells are a little too abundant. There's also a ton of stereo going on -- wear headphones if you got 'em.

This MOD features a good beat and some very heavy bass. The synth lead, although featured a bit too prominently, has a lyrical quality which makes the song memorable and keeps things from getting monotonous. The intro is cool and unique, but the ending could use some work as it is rather abrupt. All the samples are average or better, and the bass is enormous. I may have chosen a different lead voice, but the one that was used is appropriate for the genre. At 47k, I'd say this MOD is a bargain size-wise, and well worth a listen.

Other than the rather abrupt ending, this MOD features a very good arrangement. It evolves slowly but surely and never gets boring. It is a very mellow piece, but about half way through there is some interesting, well-concieved drum work which contributes to the unique feel of the song. The samples, taken one at a time, are great. Unfortunately, they all seem to be out of tune with each other. This is a flaw which drags all of the strong points of the piece with down it. No matter how well-written the track is (and this one's pretty well-written), if the samples are not in tune then it's not very enjoyable to listen to. It's not as noticeable towards the end of the song, but by that time the damage has already been done.

This MOD features some very good piano and drum parts. However, there is not much in the way of arrangement. It's the same melody over and over again, with some slight variations here and there. BAM obviously knows how to make a great sounding MOD, and has done so here. I've reviewed several of his creations, and have yet to hear an annoying or sub-par sample. One could argue that the stereo effects are a little over the top. Other than that, this is another fine production from a very talented tracker.

This is a completely different remix of L.U.C.I.A., which is also by BAM. BAM must have been truly inspired while working on these. This version starts out gangbusters, but lacks the melody L.U.C.I.A has to offer. For much (not all) of the song, great drums and spoken-word vocals compensate for the lack of melody. Like L.U.C.I.A., all the samples in this MOD are excellent. You can tell the two MODs were made by the same person -- the suttle effects, stereo and dynamics are great.

Masterfully done. What to say about a MOD that has everything.... It is moody and immersive. It has a great beat AND a great melody, while in the average MOD the latter and the former seem to be mutually exclusive. The spoken-word vocal adds much to the ambience of the piece. Bravo, this is one great MOD. All the samples are great, including the vocal. Vocals included in MODs are often horrendous, either in their tonality or the way the composer has employed them. Not so in this case. The voice is crystal clear and mixed in well with the music. There are some suttle effects, and a healthy dose of dynamics. Stereo is used well in combination with the beat, melody and vocal to really surround you in the mood of the piece. Yadda, yadda, yadda... in closing, I strongly recommend downloading this MOD immediately and then listening to it with headphones to get the full effect.

This song is full of good ideas, but just a tad overplayed. Much of it is fast, to the threshhold of annoying. The slow parts are pretty cool... as is the dramatic contrast between the slow parts and the fast. All the parts are well tracked, but the piano sample chosen is too short. It creates a herky-jerky void between each note and its successor. The drums are a high point.

This mod features a very seamless, melodic arrangement. The guitar parts are very well written. The drums and bass are a slightly understated, but that may have been intentional. Overall, this is a pleasant, well made MOD. The mix could use some tweaking... the drums and bass are buried just a little too deep. The samples chosen are all good or better. The strings in the background contribute a lot to the ambience of the piece. And, at 192k, it's pretty efficient in terms of size-- always a plus.

Very melodic and immersive. This song is like a flight through white, fluffy clouds. I could (and did) listen to it over and over again. Great piano/keyboard work throughout, with key changes and accidentals to keep things interesting. The drum and bass parts are well-written to support the keys. This is one for the collection. This is a lot of MOD file for 365k. I've heard 2mb MODs that don't come close to this one. All the samples are clean and effective. Good use of effects -- just enough, not overdone.

Very riffy, with excellent drums. The arrangement is action-packed, with a lot of mood changes and breaks. Could use more diverse instrumentation, since the rhythm guitar sample chosen doesn't cut the mustard. Very good drum and bass work, but the rhythm guitar sample is TERRIBLE. Could have had a nice effect to have that sample for the intro, then when the song kicks in switch to a good one. The lead guitars are much better. Despite the questionable instrumentation, all the parts are written well.

Lots of good, jazzy drum work here. Not much in the way of melody, but this mod creates a thick, eerie and experiential atmosphere. All good samples and well used. VERY good drums throughout. Some subtle effects add but do not distract.

This is a very moody, expressive mod. It is not complicated, but does not have to be-- the scene is set very well. I felt like I was in the bleakest of all blizzards! My only beef with this mod is that the "wind" sample may be a bit overused. That said, this is still an exceptional mod and well worth downloading.

This mod has a catchy melody, but not near enough variety. It has ONE catchy melody. Good use of dynamics toward the end. The samples are decent. The drums are a high point. The spoken word intro is cool.

This mod has a heavy, thumping beat and some good musical ideas. It's like a solid wall of sound. But there aren't enough changes for my taste. Cool drums and effects. The "transmissions" add depth and import to the presentation, but most of them are so wet with echo that they are difficult to understand.

This is a very good cover of the Nirvana song by the same name. It features simple, heavy riffs as was to be expected from Cobain and crew. This remake stays true to the original-- the only major difference is that this version is instrumental. I like the sound of the guitar samples a lot. With the exception of Curt Cobain's impeccably raw and energetic vocal delivery, I don't feel this version lacks much compared to the original. It is straightforward and well-mixed. This is one of the better cover mods I've heard.

This mod builds well and features solid musical ideas. The double-time part near the middle of the arrangement reminds me of the end of Metallica's "One." The drum parts are particularly well-written. The fade at the end is much too abrupt. I like the samples a lot. Everything is squeaky clean. The mix could use some help, though... I think it may have been a bit over-done.

Nice and catchy with a good beat. Drums are a highlight. There are some pretty good "drum rolls," which can be tough to pull off with snare samples. The mix of instruments is good, with the drums laying relatively low except for the aforementioned "drum rolls".

Wow. This mod is BIG. 3.5 minutes long and not a boring second. I want to write a mod like this when I grow up! Whoever wrote this (klf?) please write me at tenant@hotmail.com and I will update the review to credit you properly. Full of diverse instruments and complex, well-formed musical ideas. This mod is strong from top to bottom, start to finish. Download this one immediately.

Full of well-formed, catchy and original ideas. One could argue that the composition is slow to develop. The lead voice has a lyrical quality to it, which makes this song memorable, and that's always a plus. All good samples, and the mix is well done. There are some high-pitched synth bends that probably could have been omitted, but they're not that noticeable.

This mod features a good melody but a weak ending. As for musical ideas, they are strong throughout. The lack of production value drags the overall quality of the mod down considerably. The flute is too loud, the piano sample is weak, and the synth voice grates on my ears. The composition is good (hence the high Music Rating) but the voices grate on my ears.

Great mod. The intro is unique, and the bass is a highlight. The ending is awkward and abrupt... that's the only reason this one doesn't get a 10. Great bass and drum work. All the solos throughout are strong as well. Once again, this mod could have gotten a 10 if it didn't fall apart at the end.

This is a very good mod except that the breathing sample is too loud and used much too frequently. It distracts from the overall feel of the composition. Without that, this mod probably would have gotten a 7.5 instead of the 5.5 it got. Very well made overall, but that breathing sample really drags it down.

Very mellow and catchy. This mod builds smoothly and gradually... not too quickly and not too slowly. This is one of the best, most complete mods I've ever heard. I think the "synth" voice is a little more prominent in the mix than its appeal merits. I just mention that because this is the first mod I've considered giving a coveted "10" to. Other than that, this is one squeaky clean, well produced mod.

The melody is good, but never changes. Effective use of dynamics. There are some well-placed stops, and it builds nicely after them. Most of it is very good technically, but there are times when the mix falls apart. Good use of effects on the drum break. There is some subtle stereo stuff (say that 10 times fast!).

This is an attempt at a serious, doomsday classical piece. While it falls short of that, it is moody and theatrical with good use of dynamics. Not your average mod. This mod heavily features strings. The string sample is good in some parts weak in others. It is weakest when quarter notes played, so maybe a different voice could have been chosen for the lead parts.

Kinda catchy in places, but weak overall. Sorta like an instrumental tribute to Neil Diamond's "America". Clean samples, and I think it may sound a little "dim" because of the fact that the file is zipped... we can't hold that against it. Not too bad technically.

Whoever made this mod is a pretty good musician. There is some decent keyboard/"guitar" solo work. As a one-man jam out, it is ok. But it's not much of a song. All the voices are decent. The drums are almost inaudible and there is no bass line at all.

The percussion is pretty cool, but that's the only saving grace for this one. The bass line never changes. Near the end, there is a double-time freak out session which breaks up the repetition, at least where tempo is concerned. But underneath, it's still the same, monotonous bass line. Most of the samples are ok. The drums/percussion are good. There are some instruments you don't hear very often.

The musical ideas are simple in a good way. Catchy and not too busy, with a persistent, driving beat. It falls apart at the end, I think a fade would have been much better. Very good use of effects and stereo to keep things interesting. This is a pretty straightforward mod.

The majority of the song is good. There is one annoying sample (sounds like a light sabre from Star Wars) that is used MUCH more than it's aural appeal merits. Interesting and effective use of tempo and dynamics changes, but not enough changes in melody. Would be higher if not for that light sabre! Plenty of voices sprinkled thoughout, and they're put to good use. Good use of stereo effects.

This is a decent remake of the Police song "Every breath you take." Its rating suffers because it is not the whole song, but several variations on the verse. There is effective use of dynamics in places (especially the piano break two thirds of the way through) but the omission of the original's other parts-- chorus, solo, etc., makes it repetitive. The samples are ordinary, which is not necessarily bad. The mix could have used more (louder) drums. This version of the song is listenable, but not memorable in any way.

Fitting accompaniment for time-lapse photography. This song is faster than it is creative or inspired. It's much too long, there aren't enough ideas to keep it alive. There's nothing wrong with it technically. All the samples are decent or better. Decent samples, however, do not guarantee a decent mod.

Very good arrangement. This song is a grim death march. The monologue from the movie adds depth, and I really like the way the song begins. Overall, not half bad. Worth downloading. Very good instrumentation. All clean samples, well mixed. I guess my only gripe would be the heavy echo on the monologue, there are places where it is difficult to understand what is being said.

This song is a not-unflattering tribute to the bouncy, infectious bebop jazz which accompany Super Mario on his journeys. It is undeniably catchy, but longer than its nostalgic appeal can justify. Still, the imitation is admirably done. I felt like I was trying to save the princess all over again! The samples are clean and authentic. The sound effects are well employed, so they add to the music nicely without sounding gimmicky. If the intent was to make a song that sounds like it could accompany the closing credits of some lost Mario game, then mission accomplished.

This is a moody and creative song. It has a murky, expressive groove. It builds slowly (just a tad too slowly) and steadily, evolving from mostly rhythmic beginnings to a catchy, melodic finale. A little heavy on the echo, but the samples are all good. The instrumentation is diverse and unique. The drum/percussion parts are well-composed and effective-- neither overdone nor understated.
