| A nice track by Anubis that could be classified as nu jazz or acid jazz. The heavy lifting here really is done by the large samples taken from a track called 4.AM by Nite Flyte (which seem to be lifted from a low-quality MP3 file). Anubis definitely manages to add many interesting elements to that, though, so it's more than just a remix - especially the second part which really goes much further than just adding some drums to the sampled track. All in all, maybe not terribly original but certianly worth a listen. | |

| Another nice 90s trance track by Thunder. This one doesn't use the realtime filters but makes use of the "virtal instrument" feature of Symphonie to apply offline filters to the vocal samples. Speaking of which, the vocal samples are a nice touch to the track. All in all, a pretty solid tune. | |

| Thunder's tracks are among the best written in Symphonie, and this one is a prime example. A long trance track with nice samples, good usage of the echo DSP and realtime filters. Very enjoyable! | |

A classic module with great sampling work. But regarding the last two comments, there's no need to demystify anything, as it has been known already back then that the tune was entered into the competition by Unreal on behalf of Scorpik to circumvent a party rule that prevented musicians from entering both the multichannel and 4-channel music compos. | A fun track, although sometimes the mix a bit chaotic and muddy due to two bass-like instruments playing at the same time. Bassbomb really likes to use those sequenced D-50 samples and much like in waterfall-remix, the "BackMelody" (D-50 Staccato Heaven) sample adds a lot to the general atmosphere. | |

| A short chiptune with not much happening but certainly not worth the harsh score from the previous comment, given its warm and positive harmonies. Note that the XM format has no standardized global volume so an XM module can sound too loud and harsh (or too quiet!) if it was made in a different software you are listening to. You have to adjust your volume levels and cannot blame the author for that. | |

| A nice 90s dance track, managing to be both upbeat and relaxing at the same time somehow. It's really very enjoyable but it owes a lot of its atmosphere and quality to the uncredited sequences taken from the track Fjeld - Song From Without Ant. You could even go as far as saying that it's a remix of that track. | |

Some background information on this module: This module came with a text file stating the following: "MAXTEST.S3M" ScreamTracker 3.01 beta 32-track test module. Can your system handle it? Module created by Skaven of Future Crew 4/21/94 So this short piece of music is a demo track for an unreleased ScreamTracker version that supposedly could use up to 32 sample channels (official ScreamTracker versions only support up to 16 sample channels). Due to technical limitations of the S3M format, the last 16 channels are marked as "disabled" and thus (at the time of writing) will not play in OpenMPT or ModArchive's online player, but they can be observed and unmuted e.g. in Impulse Tracker or Schism Tracker. |

This starts really promising with some relaxing Good Looking Records vibes (which is no surprise as the pad and trumpet samples are lifted from Seba's classic track "Connected" from 1997). Then it builds up tension, and then... nothing. It just goes on and on. No progression, the same patterns repeat over and over again. This is the biggest issue with this track. It's easy and maybe a bit unfair to directly compare this with Seba's "Connected", but that track shows where this one should be going. There's a lot of potential for more. |

| Soundtrack to Aardbei's "Please The Cookie Thing" 64k intro. Most of the samples are obviously generated in the demo, this IT file contains the pre-computed instrument as regular samples. Even 20 years later it's still beyond amazing what this softsynth could pull off in such small size. But don't get me wrong - this is a track well worth listening to no matter what its original size was. | |

A cool 90s dance track and, as far as I know, Captain's only public S3M release (or any other PC-only format, for that matter). The work that went into the samples is evident: Clean, high quality (22 kHz) and long (often close to ST3's 64k limit) samples were all but common in 1994, especially in S3M files. Looped samples were edited with a cross-fading tool, which shows that an external sample editor was definitely used. Apart from the technical side, this is also a very nice melodic dance track - nothing too special, but certainly not boring. |

A cute track. A lush and wide soundscape with sweet harmonies. Could have done without the first pattern, though (IMHO). A hint for size reduction in future compositions: In IT/MPTM, you can share samples between instruments. This way sample 1/2 and 4/5 could be de-duplicated (with the differing pan settings being applied to the instrument rather than the sample). |

| Ah, childhood memories... this is the SoundBlaster version of the first level (the only one you ever need to play) from Zone 66, in its original tracker format, written by Kenny Chow (C.C.Catch). A rather short tune, technically very simple (the CDFM Tracker only supported volume commands, no other effects), but still a very enjoyable combination of samples and FM instruments. +1 nostalgia bonus point. | |
