Another saddish one. This one reminds me slightly of the first part of Ultravox's Vienna. Good samples, well-chosen effects, and good musical variety, except for a couple of patches where the author's ideas seem to be running a bit thin. Overall, 6-8.

Mellow trancey/ambient track. Perfectly listenable, but rapidly gets too instrusive for background music while not being interesting enough to listen to and concentrate on it. 4-6. Nice samples though.

Starts with a mixture of synth and bells(?) then adds a rock guitar. Enters the main melody after about a minute, and, it's OK, but the sample balance is slightly hit and miss in places. There are also several points where it sounds a bit like a tape recording on a wrinkled tape. Disjointed. Some of the background instruments are a bit piercing and intrusive; better samples and slightly changed balance would help a lot. 3 is harsh, but 4 or 5 is too much. It's hard to say how or where this track has gone wrong, but to me the whole track sounds subtly out of kilter. Sorry, audiomonster.

A mixture of good and so-so samples on a fast techno piece. Would be better shorter - there's not really enough content for the length, but it's OK. 4, I suppose.

Ooh. Spooky and ethereal. Not quite Alien the movie, but certainly a fitting background theme for UFO: Enemy Unknown. Liked the melody, and the distant tortured screams that start about halfway through. 8-9. Another personal favorite.

Starts out a very stylish asian-vocal piece. Then adds a thrashy drumbeat, which then gets overlaid with the vocals. Another 8-9. It's still rather too musically repetitive to earn a 10 (the exact same patterns are getting reused a lot throughout), but it's the first piece in a while where I've even seriously considered the possibility. Definitely one of my personal
favorites.

A couple of the samples at the start sound like people beating pots and pans in the kitchen :-) After that, the tune turns into an acceptable-quality action-style synth piece. 4-5. It's OK. Lurches a bit when it loops though.

Really nice syncopated rhythm gradually builds up into a first-rate synth/techno piece. Slightly sad tone, and a bit of a trancey feel to it. Hard to see how it could be improved on. The outro is worth specifically highlighting; the melody fades first, then the drums are replaced with snares and then they fade out in turn. so rather than just turning the volume down in steps, louder instruments are replaced with gradually quieter
ones to get much the same effect. Excellent. Easily an 8-9.

The audio crackle sample (like listening to an old LP) is an excellent touch. Quite a nice melancholy drum/orchestral/spacey synth piece. Unusual, creative, good samples used effectively. Lacks variety; like many pieces, it would be a lot better if the same content had been used for a
5-minute piece rather than stretched to 6m20. Still, it's certainly above average; 6-8 overall.

Another 4-track mod with some very eight-bitty samples. Not quite sure what the point of the voice sample is. Liked the background melody (and the vehicle zooms), but it's overpowered by the constant unremitting bass thumps. Poor sound balance and a rather naff voice sample make it barely listenable for me. 2-3.

Short piano rendition which sounds like it's based on a classical piece. ([Reads sample text.] Aha. Bach. Yes.) The snaredrum is an ill-advised addition, I must say. Quite nice piano samples. Mostly a bit of tracker practice for somebody, I'd guess. 4

Oh god, another slow, repetitive one that takes ages to get started. A good minute and thirty seconds of content skilfully stretched into 5m30 of 'music'. After hearing a few dozen of these, you start feeling a score of three is being way too generous. So, as this one got started just as it was fading out(!), I'll give it a 2. And there's a volume error in the loop as well.

This strikes me as a bit of StarGate-themed fan music. Rather a demo-style track, just the right music to play while showing a cheesy montage of clips from the show. No? Maybe it's just me then. Still, it's worth something in the 3-5 range.

What is that horrible 'thump' sample supposed to be?? A drum of some kind? Do us poor reviewers a favour, if that's the best drum sample you've got on your HD, for God's sake replace it with something melodic, like fingernails scraping down a blackboard. I'm not just addressing this 'artist'; I keep hearing that same hideous sample; it really should have gone out with the Atari, if not the ZX Spectrum. 2. Hate to be cruel to a first song, but samples as poor as that drum will ruin anything.

I liked the samples, but as is often the case this song takes too long to get going and does too little even after it has (finally) gotten started. If it had sounded at 20-30 seconds like it does at 1m 30 (just before it begins to wind down!), (and assuming that having reached that level of creativity it manages to sustain it) it could have got a 7 or higher. As is, 3-4.

Hey, wow, I downloaded some of the other job-xx pieces off Sunsite years ago. Funny to see them show up here too. This one starts out rather disjointed, but becomes quite cool after the 60-second mark. Builds up nicely. That is, new stuff appears gradually every few seconds rather than there being an interminable wait while one motif is repeated over and over. A lot of mod-artists could take a few tips from a track like this one. It's still pretty simple, and unfortunately it peters out rather than actually making anything on top of the buildup, but, oh well. 4.

This one just went on forever. It felt like one idea stretched to seven minutes. Actually, maybe it /could/ be used to hypnotise people, and the title is a cunning piece of irony on the part of the artist. Better samples than many mods, and I suppose if you just want some mellow background noise it would be OK. But listening to it, waiting to see if it would actually /do/ anything, was tedious. 4

Unusual mod; starts as rather a bland piece, overly repetitive in my view, as is the case for a lot of trackers, but then at two minutes a completely different song starts. Then the two musical threads gradually start to 'merge' again. A clever idea I'd like to see done better with some more creative tunes. 4.

Quite funky. Slightly stretched from the optimum length - if the song was 30 seconds shorter that would have helped its score by a point or two. Also a bit on the quiet side. Voice sample is better than many I've heard recently, and fits the song OK, but is still slightly overused. Three repetitions rather than five would have been better. As it is you get plenty of time to realise that each repetition is /exactly/ the same as the last, which always bugs me a bit. 3-4.
