Artist's Comments
Yeah, the “100% original material” guarantee from my original comments is...not really true. This song is totally styled after Terminator music. Even the intro, with its lasers and explosions and sci-fi sound effects, was inspired by the intro to actual terminator music on a movie music CD that my parents had. So, now you know. I think a lot of my comments saying “No, this was not inspired by (insert song here)” was me trying to convince myself that I wasn’t just imitating somebody else’s song.
That being said, this song was one of my better efforts at the time. The intro, while derivative, was at least interesting and did a reasonably good job of drawing the user into the song. I’m not 100% sure the samples are properly in tune, and like most of my songs around the time it was pretty repetitive. However, it represented another incremental improvement over what I had done, and was an example of a song that kind of told a story.
I don’t remember where I got the sound effect samples, I suspect it might have been from a pinball game with a sci-fi themed table. But that’s just a guess on my part. The lead probably came from 'infinity' - necros/khyron by Khyron and Necros.
The title is a reference to Independence Day, the scene where Bill Pullman’s character (the president) gives a rousing speech that includes the words “And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night!”
Sure sounded cool to me at the time, I suppose. In retrospect, that movie was kind of cheesy, and later on as I would make more non-American friends I also realized that most of them rolled their eyes at the movie where the Americans are the ones who saved the day.
