  Wether grey be ugly
   (2:53)

   4 Apr 2002

by Harri Kivisto / The Funktio Community

 older demostyle tradition in sight.
 mixed some jazz and progressive
 elements then.

 entry for the 8h compo

 huh, what a BAD samplepack.

 16bit samples... hahhah.

it's not the samples that count
 in these compos, though.
 ideas, innovation, inspiration,
 that's what counts.

more and more do I resort
 to experimentalism nowadays.
 this shield gets less protective
 by each new such song.

It all comes down to this one question,
through which we can now finally
understand the basis of the universe:

 Is grey ugly?

Lamest bass
Adequate snare
Weak hi-hat
Lame bass drum
Ugly jazz guitar (5)
Ugly jazz guitar short
Ugly jazz guitar slided
Cheesy bass
Bad bass
Weird steel drum
Naive organ
Harsh flute
Stupid slap bass
Terrible saxophone

 Demostyle music with
 novel chord-progression,
 and rhythmic changes,
 elements that demostyle
 music has used to defy
 quite effectively.

 Jazz in demostyle music
 has rather been just
 playing around with
 7's and maj7's. Using
 "jazzy" harmonies
 has been extremely rare
 in tracked music, which
 is a great pity.
