Classification: Minimalistic Ambient Musical Rating: Good A pretty typical (musically) minimalistic ambient piece in the same same style as most of Rikimbo's modules. Perhaps that is not so surprising since Alli-Gee is Rikimbo's little brother. Well, in any case, the mood is dark but yet hopefully reflecting. The melody is structured on a repetive background of bass, piano and strings but made up for by a nice distorted square lead with vibrato. The samples seem to use a lot of New Note Action with long echoing envelopes. This works fine with most of the samples but not with distorted lead, which sounds like it's jumping in volume back and forth all the time which sounds strange and synthetic - especially in the middle parts. Generally, there is a sort of rawness in the song which I can't put my finger on, but it's there. Maybe it's just a matter of experience, but the module is still satisfying to listen to. Technical Rating: Amateur Technically, this is quite well done. Skillful use of Off sets, envelopes and volume control nodes (set volume). The use of speed 13 minimalisates off-beat problems. Try to remove unused samples (Some of the snares in your ITI/XI seem to be unused). If you can, cut down the length of some samples and convert to 8-bit (provided that sample quality is not heavily reduced). Especially sample 15 and 17 could have been optimised to save a few hundred KBs. This is unusual, but I have little to comment on the technical side. Generally, the biggest advice I can give to the author is to keep tracking and learning. Judging from this track, there's a lot of potential in him. //Eagle
