The piece caught my interest right away. Soft rain falls in the background, while an acoustic guitar plays a repetitive melody, giving a dark and suppressed feeling. Reverse attack and ramped samples make the song interesting, while bass supports and fills out the sound. The windfall of the song however, is that it is very repetitive. The intro is very long. It takes more than half the song to get to the main melody! So, what it lacks in variety, "Black Rain" makes up with a very original and dark sound. While I'm not calling the tracker an "amateur," I think the piece is very simple. It uses incredibly long, high-quality loops (reportedly ripped from Black Sabbath). Because of this, most of the song is empty space. Ping pong loops are found in interesting spots (most notably the background rain and drum loops) to produce a clever Beatles'-like effect. The song is just oversized for being so simple. Playing this song in IT also results in a cool light show :) In wrapping up: sounds/looks cool, but takes too much space for what's in it.
