I listened to this music some time ago, but I thought it needs getting used to. But after a while it got better and better.
Great tune with so much athmosphere and conception. Great composing and nice samples.

Incredible for how long I've had this in my playlist and never commented on it. "The Alchemist" is a spooky, impressive and massive soundtrack that could work really well in a videogame that's about an old castle or something. ^_^

wah! a great tune by Skaven; yet it sounds unusual, it's quite easy to recognize his style. a bit oriental, very mystical and with grrrrreat arpeggios - that's what this song is. though it didn't made it to a good place in MC5, it's surely worthy to be listened through.

The Alchemist - playing time 03:44 Author's homepage: http://isis.yok.utu.fi/~skaven This song was my Music Contest 5 entry. However, it didn't make it to the top 20, so I'm releasing it now as it is - with the sample texts included, of course. :) This song was inspired by the stories of H.P. Lovecraft (hence the name). It is an addition to the series of attributed fantasy I seem to be doing from time to time. Vision-wise, you can imagine a diligent alchemist in a dark cavern, working his way closer and closer to the forbidden truths, until he invokes ancient evil beyond his control... Tho if you imagine something else when listening to this one, I'm not stopping you. :) About the samples The AlienAhh sounds mighty bizarre, doesn't it? Well, its history is even more such. I downloaded an "Ahhhhhh!" (said by a big hairy lummox digitized from Ren&Stimpy) off the Usenet and flanged it beyond recognition. Like the results? :) I've sampled most of the percussions myself off metal tape, this may explain the poor-ish quality - all I had to sample with was a Sound Blaster Pro. For the rest of the samples, most of the credit goes to NHP, Bruno and a couple of others who I'm not sure about whether they've ripped the samples themselves or not. About the patterns The climax-like chord transfer on patterns 23..24 is a rip- off. It was originally featuring in a totally bizarre organ song composed by a person who suffered from chronic schitzo- phrenia (contributing to his creativeness, I take it). I thought it was so cool I decided to put it in use myself - copying is sometimes a part of the learning process. My regards to him, whoever he was. You may also recognize the chord progression in patterns 49-50, as it was used by Chris Franke in several parts of the Babylon 5 soundtrack; before that it was used in Tangerine Dream's 'Miracle Mile' soundtrack - however, Chris Franke - a former Tangerine Dream member himself - was not involved in the Miracle Mile project. Makes me wonder, did HE rip it too? :) What else, now.... Well I hope you enjoy this little production. I'm signing off now. -= Skaven, August 5th, 1997
