This is a good atmospheric piece, made with simple techniques used effectively. The scene is set from early in the piece, with the dark, atmospheric sound coming through, created by slow-moving strings and ambient beeps. There is a good section later in the tune where a little more variety is added, with the strings changing from the two chords that continue for most of the tune. With the drums continuing from this point, a build up is created, adding some more interest. This piece is structured quite well, and all the sections fit together nicely. Some better blending of samples could perhaps have helped, especially the drums in the latter half, which seem to stand out a little too much. However, after a little while the music gets rather repetitive, so despite the fact that there are many good things to be seen here, overall, some different, more diverse sections could perhaps have added interest. The technical side of this piece was perhaps not as complex as it might have been, although this did not significantly detract from the music. Much of the complexity of this piece comes from the looped drums, and although they are used well in the piece, it is disappointing to see that the artist couldn't come up with something more creative that could be more easily modified. As it is, the artist relies heavily on one type of drum-fill throughout the piece, when more variety would have added a little more interest. Some better use of panning would have added to the atmospheric feel to this piece; most of the panning stays in the centre position. For example, the beeps echoing away could have perhaps reverberated around the left and right channels, "surrounding" the listener a little more, and therefore drawing them into the music. However, despite these small flaws and the simplicity of the technical side overall, the piece is created effectively. This is a simple but effective piece. Some variety might have definitely helped add interest, but overall, a good sound it created.

This is a very well created, mellow piece of soft rock, held together by its sweeping strings and wailing lead guitar, both of which are well executed in this piece. The different parts ebb and flow over one another, each taking a lead for a while then fading into the background to support the rest of the music. The percussion is just right for this piece of music, with a subtle sound; it's almost possible to overlook the percussion altogether here, and that's probably for what the artist was aiming. Perhaps a greater climax could have been created about three quarters of the way through the song; the music stays very subdued throughout, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but a little more passion thrown in may have helped. Overall, an excellent piece of music anyway. Technically, this song is very good also. The song blends well, as a piece in this genre should do; the sample volumes are tweaked nicely. The effect usage on the lead guitar is well done, with good use of vibrato and volume effects to create a realistic sound. One drawback to the technical side of things is the complete lack of panning and stereo effects in the song. A good surround effect could have been created to make a fuller, more robust sound. As it is, the song is still good, but it's disappointing to see such an area neglected.

This is a great, well-paced piece of music, with a great sound created from the very beginning. The bongo drums used throughout the song give the beat a little syncopation; a little more interest, which is needed in a trance song. This just gets better as the song goes along with some great acid samples, and vocals which give the song it's trancey feel. Perhaps a few more ideas could have been put into this, it feels as though the piece creates a theme and then doesn't explore it to its full potential. This has some very good parts to it, and nothing bad about it, but the good parts could have been extended. Very good, overall though. Technically, this is also very good. Some of the parts that sound as though they may perhaps be a loop, such as the bongo drums, are simply created in such a way that they mix together very well. And the blend as a whole in this piece is very good, with the sample volumes just right, and the panning excellently designed to create some nice surround and 3D effects. Good use of IT's resonance filters in the acid part helps cut down the number of acid samples required. Overall, very nicely created.

This is a really funky, yet laid back piece of groove, with some great syncopated rhythms. The alto sax is really good, and implemented well in the piece, even if it is only loops, played in different orders. This is a well created piece of music with a great feel to it. This shows quite simple construction used to a great effect. Overall there's not much that could be done to improve it, the loops merge well and the piece as a whole blends together nicely. A good example of the cliché "simple but effective"

This is quite a strange little piece. Quite repetitive, although a good sound is created. The artist describes this as "more music for the movie... without the movie"; although this is nice music to have sitting in the background while something else is going on, it's not the sort of piece that makes you jump out of your seat in excitement. Musically it's created quite well - I'm sure the artist could write some great stuff - but there just isn't any substance to the music that makes you sit up and listen. Technically, this is well created, with a full, mellow sound staying throughout the piece. The artist shows a lot of skill in his tracking here, but very little inspiration, as the piece stays rather low-key. Good music for sitting behind something else, but quite dull on it's own.

This is a really well created piece of electronic music, with a complexity that is often not heard in other mods, and when it is, is often dealt with in a messy manner. Good percussion line backed up with some nice effects add a professional sound to this. The only drawback is that it is so short (just over a minute) and whether this is because the artist ran out of ideas or what, it detracts from the song which, with a few more ideas thrown in as it goes along could have been extended to create a more substantial track. It was disappointing to see that the main feature of this piece (its great percussion line) was just a single drum loop played over and over again with very little variety in its usage. The effects were used well, although the piece in its construction was quite basic. A fairly simple construction to a good product.

I'd tend to classify this as Rave simply because that's what the artist classifies it as, but it's really not rave. It's far too mellow, and the tempo is far to slow for rave. There is really only one riff throughout this, and although it's not too bad, it gets repetitive after a while. Perhaps a few different ideas rather than putting together different parts of the same basic idea at different times would have made this piece a little more interesting. However, besides the repetition, it's not too bad. It's fairly well created for the style, and blends together well. Overall, some improvements could have been made, but not too bad. Fairly well created technically. Some nice panning, and the samples are quite good. The vocals are created well in the song, using seperate samples for each part and then mixing them together, also giving the artist more versatility with the construction of the rap. Overall, this is quite good technically.

Well, I'll at least agree with the title insofar as to say that this sounds like the music from a really budget, really old computer game that should have died a horrible death. This song is depressingly repetitive and hardly mixes together at all. The percussion beat really starts grating on your nerves after about 30 seconds, and the main tune sounds very laboured and uninspired. Overall, this is quite a badly made piece of music. About as simple as you can get here. This uses few if any effects, and the samples are of quite poor quality. There is no panning and few volume changes. Overall, this is a _really_ simple piece of music, and technically, not very good at all.

Quite a good remix of DJ Bombay's "Calcutta", let down by a depressingly bad ending, if you can call it that. This song simply loops back to earlier in the tune once it reaches the end. This really needs an ending; I've never liked the idea of tunes looping back, and when you get a really good song like this doing it, it's very disappointing. Apart from that though, this is quite a good song, with the parts mixing together nicely, and a good style created and maintained throughout the piece. Overall, let down really badly by the ending, but quite good otherwise. Technically, this is quite well created, if you turn a blind eye to the number of long samples ripped straight from the original, which really bumps the file size up. However, these samples are used quite well in the song, and the other samples are excellent, and used to really good effect. Everything needed is done here (apart from an ending.... but have I mentioned that already?), and this is technically a pretty good track.

This is a pretty good song, especially when you take into consideration the limitations of the 4-channel mod format. The artist creates quite a complex sounding track, with some interesting effects and quite a good melody behind it. The harmonies tend towards early 90s electronica - not that that's a bad thing =P - and the drum beat also seems to take a great deal of inspiration from this era, giving it a kinda nostalgic sound to it. Overall, a fairly well put together track. Pretty simple in construction, but the bones of a well made track are there. Working in the limitations of the format, this is quite good technically, and there's nothing really wrong with how it is constructed. There are places where you can really tell it's a 4-channel mod, but that's part of what comes with the format. Overall, not too bad.

This has some odd sounding percussion right from the start, which seems to sum up the strange nature of this mod. There is a rather dull and uninventive tune, which seems not to develop or change throughout the piece. The ending is an anticlimax to what was never a climax. In short, not worth the effort to download. Very simple construction to this piece. Only a very few effects used to a fairly poor outcome. This piece is very simple, and although there's not really a lot wrong with it, there's nothing right with it either, and all that results from poor tracking is a very boring song

Quite a good house tune created here. Good rhythm, with a few eclectic-sounding harmonies in the main part of the song. The intro is quite good, but once this piece starts going, it stays the same way for most of the song, with a lot of repetition. However, there are some really great effects in here. Watch out for the house organ, which is used really well by the artist in the latter part of the song. Overall, this is a good piece, if somewhat repetitive. However, on the technical side of things, wow! This piece is marvellously complex, with some really good panning, some excellent use of samples to blend, and some wonderful - yet subtle - reverb in some of the parts. This is a beautifully created track, with an attention to detail which is fantastic. You'd never guess as to the technical complexity of this piece if you just heard the music, and really the fact that the music is quite simple turns out to be a bit of a disappointment when you see how well-created this track really is.

This is a relaxing piece of music, with a good style created. The strings floating over the top give a really peaceful atmosphere to the piece. The slap bass that is used is perhaps a little brash for the ambient effect that was being created here, but that's quite a small thing. Not too complex, but overall, nice blend, nice atmosphere, nice music. This looks fairly simple, but there are some nice effects. Some good panning envelopes mean the strings fade from one channel to the other nicely. This piece blends very well, which is really pleasing, because the style screams for blend, and the artist good use of sample volumes really helps this. Overall, quite good.

This has a really good, professional sound to it, with a driving rhythm and some really nice sounding pads. There's only one problem as far as I can see - that being the lack of bass through most of the piece; it sounds really good, but you can feel it missing something, and that can be attributed to a lack of substance in the bassline. A piece like this needs not only a thumping bass drum, but a good bass sample; with a bit of resonance to it. This just doesn't have it and it's really disappointing, because overall, this is a good piece of music. This looks technically pretty good, with a huge number of channels used to create a really complex sound. But most of the complexity in the sound is created by long drumloops, which are played simply in the way you'd expect drumloops to played. They probably could have been used to a better effect. Overall, it's not too bad technically, but it looks better than it actually is.

Once this gets going it has quite a good sound to it, but the intro is just laughable. Whatever the artist was trying to achieve with this - by way of contrast or humour - is lost, as the unprofessional sound really detracts from the overall music. However, once the intro is over, quite a good piece of music is created, with some really interesting sounds, and a good steady beat behind it. It's just a pity that this better sound could have been seen at the beginning of the piece as well. Technically, pretty simple, although there are some good effects. Overall, the piece blends well (excluding the intro), and some pretty good samples aid the piece in achieving a good style. There is no panning in this piece, which is quite disappointing, as some of the acid samples could have done well to echo through the left and right channels. Overall, could have been better.

This is a really complex and excellent piece of music, with a great deal of variety to keep it interesting. It starts with an excellent drum pattern which is created very professionally and moves into some great piano work. This professional edge continues throughout the rest of the piece; making it sound great. The only gripe I have is that it's too short! Less than 3 minutes! With music of this calibre, you want it to last for longer... Technically, this is excellent. Great panning and samples. The way the samples blend is just bliss. The volumes and echoes the artist uses are great, making this piece sound really professional. A really excellently created piece of music here.

A really funky sound is created at the start of this piece and is continued with style for the length of this track. The bass is particularly good, with a nice "cool" lead over the top. This song gets a little repetitive after a while - a more interesting percussion track could perhaps have done something about that; but the style is carried out well. Quite good technically also, with good use of the instrument functions to create a well combined track. Quite good panning, and fairly good samples also help in this area. Overall pretty good.

This song is very strange, but instead of the experimentation seeming like the artist is exploring a new genre of music, it seems as though artist is throwing together random sounds. After about 3 minutes of this, you start to wonder what the artist was trying to achieve. It just startes grating on your nerves. Although a lot of effects are used in this piece, you wonder why. It just seems to serve to make the piece more messy than it actually is. The complexity of this piece is bizarre; it is made up of so many different parts, but still sounds incredibly repetitive. All this piece does is sound untidy.

A really excellent piece of music here, with a great lead and nice accompaniment which backs up the track really well. There are some really good sections which fit together beautifully. The percussion track was perhaps a little too simple, but with the limits of four tracks, the artist had to sacrifice somewhere, and really, a little thing like that doesn't detract from an excellent song like this. This is a perfectly executed track, with some really, really good technical aspects to it. The music fits together excellently, held together by some pretty slick technical work. As long as you don't take this song seriously, it's tolerable. That is, it is incredibly simple in its construction as a song, but if you honestly believe the artist was out to write a decent piece of music with this transcription then there's something wrong anyway. This is about as simple as it comes when you look at it technically. Nothing special here whatsoever. Pretty poor samples, used in a very simple way. Very nice piece of music which is let down a little by its transcription into mod form. The music is nice, although sounding a little empty in places. Perhaps a little more of the lower piano would have helped; the piano samples start to sound a little strained once they are played too high. Overall, though, a very good piece of music. Very well made considering the limitations of the four channel MOD form, although, as said before, the piano sample starts to sound very strained and unrealistic once it is played at the higher octaves; perhaps one more sample of the piano at a higher pitch may have helped. Some nice tempo changes help this piece though. Overall, quite well created once you take into account the limitations in which the artist had to work.

A bit ravey, a lot acid and quite hardcore. A fast, pounding beat is created from the start of the piece and continued quite nicely. Unfortunately although quite a professional sound is created here, this is mainly due to the samples which are all big, long acid loops. Still, a good feel over all; a good one for all the rave / acid fans out there. It was rather sad to see how simple this was in construction, although a good enough sound is created without the technical excellence anyway. Really, the fact that it is simple doesn't really detract from the piece overall, and it could even be assumed that because the music was good enough anyway, the artist saw no need to pump it up with a useless technical side.

Quite good, but very standard kind of rave piece here, where the rhythm takes pride of place over the tune. Just one melodic idea through the piece, accompanied by varying degrees of aggressive breakbeats, and eclectic samples thrown in over the top. Quite a well created rave piece, but doesn't go much further than what the genre defines. Technically quite simple, although the sample quality is quite good, and the piece is constructed well over all. Not technically excellent, but solid, with enough to make the sound blend, and keep the piece together. Good for the hardcore rave junkies, but if you don't like the style, steer clear.

This is a very simple and very repetitive song. Although a good dance beat and feel is created here, the music is quite poor and very sparse. A style like this really needs a bigger sounds behind it, and this piece just doesn't have it. When the lead comes in, it feels like the piece should have been building up to this point, but it hasn't and it feels very empty. Overall, really lacking some substance. Technically, quite simple, although there seems to be a decent amount of work gone into this piece. Fairly good samples, although they probably could have been used to a better result. A really nice, gentle piece of music here. The oboe sample is particularly nice and dealt with very well. The tune is very good, and counter melodies throughout the piece keep it interesting. Overall quite good. Technically, also very good, with a nice amount of panning and excellent samples for the style of music. Some use of NNAs might have helped, especially with the string samples, which tend to cut off a little abruptly, and detract from the very realistic sound which is created by the other parts of the music. Two other minor things - the timpani rolls which occur in the second half of the piece are quite "klunky", real care needed to be taken - perhaps some sample offsets or delays, but the simple repetition of the sample sounds very (dare I say it) "tracked". Secondly, the sample of "Happy Christmas!" at the very end of the piece was really not needed, and I think really detracts from the piece, but that's really a minor thing. Overall, as said, technically very well created.

A fairly good, if fairly generic doskpop-style tune here. Nice chord progression gives it a sort of fantasy sound to it, and fairly good samples back up the tune well. Some nice echoes around the left and right channels which create a good effect. Overall, it seems fairly simple, but doesn't get too repetitive; the full sound created by good samples and good use of panning gives this piece a real lift, and really makes this piece listenable. Technically, this piece has good foundations, although a little more probably could have been done to make the samples blend a little more. The percussion track, stands out a little too much, and just tweaking the channel volumes on those track would've made it blend a little better. This is a very strange tune. It has some very experimental, and to some degree interesting, ideas. Also, some of the samples don't blend very well, and don't fit too well musically. Overall the tune is just too strange to give a good rating to, although the piece as a whole has some merit through its experimentation... Technically, this is very poorly made. Very few effects or volume changes, and the samples are played at what seems random times. Having viewed the tracking behind the experimentation, you have to wonder whether the experimentation was deliberate, or whether the artist just created this track by accident.

Perhaps an experiment to combine the two styles; this piece really doesn't work. I only wish the artist could have thought up a slightly more imaginitive drum track. This is quite poorly constructed. A fairly simple and yet effective piece here, with some nice chords, and good use of the samples. A new idea or two towards the middle of the piece would have been good, as this piece gets rather repetitive, and also more of the lead strings would have added some interest. Technically, good enough. The real problem with doing this type of piano music in a mod, is that it is very easy to get it sounding very sterile and unfeeling, and although the tempo is very constant here, the feeling is still created using the other samples, like the strings which just glide underneath, smoothing the sound of the piano. Perhaps a few tempo changes here and there, and some sample delay occasionally on the piano could have helped, but technically, fairly good.

A very well made, although a little repetative metal song. The guitars are created well, sounding very realistic, and the drum track fits well with the rest of the music. The only problem, as far as I can tell is that there is no lead at any point in the piece, which would really have alleviated the repetition. This would have made a good backing track, but is really missing some vocals or a wailing lead over the top. Not so well created technically, with quite simple construction. Excellent samples, however, which is what really gives this piece its realistic sound. The bass is out of tune with the rest of the guitar samples, but I feel this actually adds to the sound of the piece, so this may have been done on purpose by the artist. This is a fairly well created breakbeat track, with fairly good samples, and sticks to a well-defined genre. However, while being a very standard breakbeat track, the artist lets the genre limit them, rather than exploring ways to extend the genre. That is to say that there is nothing that really stands out about this track; it's very similar to anything else you'd get in this style. Alright if you're a hardcore breakbeat addict, but overall, in style, this piece is rather orthodox. The samples are quite good in this piece, and the drumloops are manipulated well to create different rhythmic effects. However, this is created in a rather simple manner, with few effects and little use of the tracking program to enhance the music. In places, the drumloops are a little out of sync, with the tempo of the piece not quite set to the tempo of the loop, which can get a little offputting at times. Overall, not technically brilliant, but adequate for the orthodox style of the track.

Tech step verging on hardcore/gabber, and although a good beat is created here (you need to bounce when you hear this...), there is no real musical interest in this piece, as it is repeated with no variety. Quite short too, a piece like this needs to be longer, so even if there is a great deal of repetition, contrasting sections can exist. Overall, not a particularly complex or interesting piece of music. Technically very simple. Having said that though, you have to notice that for a song like this, it's not really necessary for a complex technical side of things. Some nice work here. A good chord progression, and very nice piano work. The rest of the accompaniment is nicely subdued, but sounds a little disjointed at some points - maybe this is because of the player =) The percussion doesn't fit a lot of the time, the heavy bass drum tends to overpower much of the rest of the music. However, quite good all up. Good use of panning, and the piano sample is very good. Some volume changes in the piano line would have been good, however, as it tends to sound a little too artificial after a while. Overall however, a well tracked piece of music.

Much of this is the same, and basically the whole piece is built around two chords. However, despite this repetition, the music is quite good, with some interesting ideas, and different parts which work together nicely. I especially like the organ, and the bass which keeps the piece moving. The technical side of this piece is rather generic, with only fair quality samples, very little panning and a rather simple composition. The percussion, however, is created well, despite its simplicity, and the guitar riff throughout the piece is created cleverly, using the samples well.

Very atmospheric piece of music, with a kind of tribal influence through the primitive sounding drum beat. Quite good, although I would have liked to see a little more melodic accompaniment to go with this. The main tune is quite good, but when the it's only backed up with a sub bass and not much else it tends to sound rather empty. It's a pity, because this is quite good apart from this. Not a lot here, technically, although the panning is quite good, and the atmospheric effect is created largely due to this. The samples are quite good all up, with a mix of 16 and 8 bit. However, most of this piece's impact comes from the looped samples: howling wind, drum loop, guitar riff whatever, and a lot of the piece that was actually created in the tracker is not quite so good.
