Forum rules:

Posting

Try to use the right forum for your topic, if you aren't sure go with your best feeling, if it turns out to be wrong a moderator can move it for you.

Please use a relevant title when you open a topic.

Avoid double-posting when possible. You have the ability edit your own post if there have been no other posts since you made yours on the thread.

Please keep discussions on topic. If you have something to say, which is not related with the discussion, just open a new topic. If you want to be random, there is the Lobby and associated threads therein.

Please use a descriptive subject title when posting new threads. "Help!" is not a descriptive title. ;)

Do not link or post any illegal stuff.

Do not post pornographic or any disruptive, unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable content.

Do not title topics with caps (upper-case) only letters, the same goes for message contents. CAPS is reserved for shouting on the internet, so please use it sparingly.

If you want to incorporate links with your posts on every post you make, please do not use the post body for your signature, use the signature setting from within your profile.

No-spam policy

Blatant spamming will arrange you a direct meeting with the ban hammer and having your posts removed. This rule is generally aimed at those who register just to spam their products.

Addendum: This includes Discord servers.

Signatures

User Signatures are useful for letting readers know a little about yourself. Use of signatures is completely voluntary, however if you decide to use yours, you must follow these simple rules.

Images

Please do not use images in your signature that are disruptive to the forum layout. We would prefer it if you refrained from using signature images as they tie up page loading times for visitors on slow connections. However, in the case that you want to use an image; please mind the following limitations:

Your signature image size is limited to 400 pixels in width by 120 pixels in height. We are slightly flexible with this rule, for example a 410x130px image is acceptable. The moderators will help you determine if your image size is appropriate.

You may use more than one image, but regardless of the number of images, their combined total dimensions (and file size) must not exceed the maximum allowable image size.

File size must be kept below 80kb to help reduce bandwidth usage and alleviate the slow page loads for our dial-up readers. Using a proper file type can usually ensure a small file size, but many animated .gif files have very large file sizes.

Signature Links

Signatures may contain a maximum of 4 external links. Signature spamming (loading your signature with links) falls foul of the no-spam policy.

Bans

If the unfortunate situation arises that you are temporarily banned from the forums, do not attempt to evade the ban. Doing so will only make matters worse in the long run. Wait for your ban to expire, this is the cooling-off period.

Website News Archive / Modarchive 2.1 in the works
« on: July 03, 2007, 11:24:25 »
:breakpage:
It may seem quiet at the moment with regard to news posts, but that's mainly because I am busy building the next phase of the site, which is going to usher in a much nicer layout and a round of improvements.

I'll keep you posted, but in the meantime, business as usual on the site :)

Website News Archive / All members - Account Passwords Changed
« on: June 21, 2007, 14:53:47 »
:breakpage:
As mentioned in the previous news post, the account passwords are now handled differently and therefore you need to regenerate your own new password. Those who had responsibly set their email addresses can request the new password automatically and have it mailed to them. Simply go to the login area and click on "Forgot Password?".

The others who did not get the information in time (sorry, but this was too urgent to leave too long) can get in touch via the forums, where the painstaking process of manually activating accounts will go. Unfortunately, those that are going to have to do this are going to have to wait about a week and a half as of this afternoon I will be on my travels abroad.

Since there have also been some major behind the scenes re-coding efforts by me today, I sincerely hope nothing has broken, if it has then please report it as per usual via the forums->Site Discussion->site reports thread.

All the best

There will be some site maintenance shortly, mainly to regenerate a new password database for everyone. Therefore, it is absolutely paramount that anyone who wishes to have their new password sent to them should log in and SET THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS TODAY!

After the maintenance, those without email addresses will have their accounts locked until they get in touch via the forums and their identity can be verified.

Sorry about this, but security is a primary concern and updates to it cannot be hindered by those who are too stubborn to ultimately help themselves.

Website News Archive / Another Magazine appearance?
« on: June 19, 2007, 17:16:54 »
:breakpage:
Aparently, from a reliable source - the site has been referenced in a popular music magazine by Future Publishing called "Computer Music". The issue at hand ironicly isn't the latest one entitled "TRACKERS" to go out on the shelf, but the one before that entitled "Laptop Music".

If anyone has this issue and can find the article/column where the site has been mentioned, please if you can - take a digital photo of it, or a scan and sent it to me at: press [at] modarchive dot m0d dot info.

I have ordered a back issue of this magazine in the meantime but they reckon up to 28 days delivery on it. Bleh.

Cheers! :)

Hi there,

I'm pretty sure that at least some of you know me, and CTGmusic.com. For all others that don't know any of those two: Shame on you.
This is your opportunity to change that however... Go and compete against your fellow musicians in our official CTG compo. Have fun.

If you win, you can get CTG stickers. YAY!

Website News Archive / Member Profiles!
« on: June 13, 2007, 15:08:05 »
:breakpage:
If you have a regular member account on the main site, you should now have access to a profile editing area where you can upload a picture of yourself and write some info about yourself and the modules you like, or whatever.

If you're an artist, this is nothing new... you already have one of these profiles if you're an artist.

The system has syntax that allows you to make links to modules on the archive as well as some basic text formatting. I will also be adding a tag to link to other artist's profiles, this will come later though.

So, if you've got a member account, have a go filling it in and link up your permalink (shown on your profile) on this thread! :)

There may be some teething bugs, but since this is based on the same system that the artists use, it's unlikely. If you encounter anything, let me know on the "Site Discussion forum's" site issue report thread.

The Site Terms have been updated as well to reflect the addition of profiles for all account types.

Website News Archive / Sound On Sound article
« on: June 11, 2007, 12:46:53 »

We had a mention in one of the worlds leading professional music magazines, within an article subsection on Tracking.  Now they have put the article online for public viewing:

July 2004 Article

Obviously SoS saw the old Modarchive site, as TMA2.0 didn't arrive until 2006 in public form at least. Still, it is an excellent article aimed at anyone interested in making music on the PC using (mainly) free software.
