Bug Report Archive / Effects that repeat parameters.
« on: July 26, 2013, 12:52:13 »
Hey. Was working on a track, and discovered that some effects are not supposed to copy the previous value when a value of 00 is used for xx:

There may be more. I was able to confirm this by using FT2 and XMPlay (both played it the same way).

It was some web site that existed.. around 2002-ish maybe? It had some decent sample packs. It's since disappeared, though :(

It's not difficult when I'm constructing all the synths myself :) So maybe something like a HP filter on the 303 sample. I'm not really constructing all the sounds as a whole, just individually. So each sample kinda covers all parts of the spectrum.

Thanks for the advice.

Edit: Also, as for bitrate, well... using the current samples, I'm reaching both octave limits for ProTracker on that sample. I could double up on it for low and high frequencies without a problem though.

I pretty much grew up using FastTracker. But then I switched to ModPlug for a few years. Then someone mentioned MilkyTracker to me, so I've been using that lately. At times it feels like FT2. But I don't want to change resolutions (because I have a flatscreen, it looks horrible) so in fullscreen mode, I have to deal with tiny buttons! They should at least offer a scaling option or something.

I've been working on this module for a few days now and I can't figure out how to make each part a bit distinct from each other. They all seem to run together. Especially in the third and fourth patterns.

I created all the non-percussion samples myself so they aren't a problem to change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

(Well, anything other than "switch to a better format". :P I don't tend to think outside the box - I'd rather take the box that's there and make the most of it.)

Stereo width is fun to play around with. I've used these techniques a lot (they all require 2 channels):

This one uses sample offsets - if the wave is small you can do out-of-phase stuff using this too
C-4 P0 901 | C-4 PF 000

If you don't want to clip a sample, delay it instead
C-4 P0 ED1 | C-4 PF 000

This one gives sort of a slight flange effect
C-4 P0 E11 | C-4 PF E21(optional)

This is great for percussion that isn't a bassdrum but you may need to reduce the sample's volume
C-4 -- 800 | C#4 -- 8FF

If you need to save some effect space and know for a fact that the sample will always have some sort of stereo width, just set the sample's pan to the left or right, then use effects to do only one side. For example, if you set the pan all the way to the left (00) then all you need is this:

C-4 -- --- | C#4 -- 8FF

While using invert-channel you can achieve surround-like effects, but if your listener is using mono output for some reason, it's going to sound really weird and might not even sound like anything at all.

Yeah, real sorry about that, guys. I'll be more careful next time ;)

Haha, I'm so noobish for doing this but...

I just uploaded Ice Moss.xm to the archive. Then I found out that the program stripped out the artistname and date from the instruments. So I re-uploaded using the XM name that started with spk2oo8_Ice Moss - and slept a little. I didn't give a chance for my ears to rest and didn't realize that some of the levels were pretty bad.

So now I've got a final version of the chip, but I'm holding off from uploading until the two that are in the queue from me are removed. Think that's possible? I'd rather not have duplicates up.

This is what I want to replace it with, if at all possible:
