MilkyTracker Tracks & Songs / Techniques of Chipping

Hi, I'm really into chiptunes and I'm quite new at it. Recently I've read this documentation which was really helpful:
http://www.milkytracker.net/docs/Vhiiula-TechniquesOfChipping.txt
But I don't really understand a certain part which was not properly explained. That part is the 'Envelope Technique' as the author describes it. So I understand that 8-bit sine/square/tri waves samples will constantly loop & sustain and enveloping it will make it sound more like an instrument (piano) which has attack & decay properties.
Now I'm using Milkytracker and creating a sample in 200(byte?) size and then generating the sine/sq/tri waves in periods of 5 (8-bit). What I don't understand is, at which part do I start drawing at the sine/sq/tri wave the enveloping thing?
Some assistance very much appreciated
