Sampling / Good sources for samples
« on: August 09, 2007, 19:36:24 »
My sample collection is incredibly small compared to my module collection.

I think thats because I've always been a terrible "thief" of samples from other modules.

I've decided to mend my ways in this respect, so; what sort of places do you guys get your samples from, and also, any good sample CD stores around?

I've got one about Manga/Anime and it logs my attempts to learn how to draw... if anyone is interested!

BeroTracker that was it!

I used to to create ringtones for my old nokia. They should really build composers into them like the old nokia 3210 had - I actually wrote stuff on it while I was away from home :D

My pipeline for doing the Berotracker thing was

IT or Mpt (using their midi stuff) -> Belo Tracker -> .mid file

Mpt had its own midi output but it was very badly timed as I remember...

I think there was a good tracker for converting to MID files...Belo tracker or something?

Yes, I did hear about all that - I use Schism which is one of those offshoots...

only complaint is that they've copied the interface of IT instead on building on it :S

What about the front end? Is that similar to It or is it still MPT/windoze style? I never got on with that :(

Writing music should be like playing a game :D (imo anyway)

here are a few places you might be able to drum up some interest: - Indie gamer discussion board have their own area for this - popular game dev blog, be nice to Juuso though! - one of the biggest game development sites around - Blitz3D can natively play Xm,It, S3m, etc...

more as I remember them...

First mod I ever heard (apart from my own first failed attempt) was Last Ballad by Siren.

Still one of my favvy tunes to this day. It changed my life :D

I think any new format is good news for the community.

However, it's been a while since we've seen anything which matches IT or FT2 in popularity - saying that, even when those formats were introduced it took quite some time for S3M to be replaced in players and such...

I've seen a few hopefulls in new formats over the years - I still believe Buzz could have been the next big tracker if development had continued...Renoise sounds great but is hella complicated to use - even for an "experienced" tracker such as myself.

I want something like IT, but better! *whine whinge*

Well, I have the "Mods Anthology" CD collection from a few years back (quite a few years now!) which was 4 cd's worth, and also the Maz sound double CD collection from a bit more recently (2001?)

That added to my own collection of other people's and my own - makes about 3 to 4 gb worth I guess :D
