MilkyTracker Support / Unwanted transposition upon opening?
« on: March 09, 2012, 00:49:13 »
Hi all, I just got started using MilkyTracker and I've run into a pretty annoying problem. My instruments (just simple 8bit waveforms) are all tuned to C-4, yet sometimes when I open my .xm files, the entire song is transposed either up or down. The note values all remain the same, as does "Relative Note: C-4" under Instrument Edit, but the pitch of each is significantly higher or lower.

This problem seems to happen more when loading a new .xm file while another song is loaded. If I close MilkyTracker completely and load the .xm by clicking on it (as opposed to loading it from within MilkyTracker), the problem doesn't seem to persist--so it seems no permanent alterations have been made to the .xm's themselves. It would be nice, though, to be able to load songs from within MilkyTracker.

Anyone ever experienced this/know a way to fix it?

The Lobby / Newbie Question about "ettiquette"
« on: March 08, 2012, 17:46:32 »
Hi all, I just recently started using MilkyTracker to make some 8-bit stuff, and it's the first time I've ever really gone the sample-based route. I quickly discovered how easily module files are accessible online, and how one can essentially open any given artist's file and check out their techniques and samples. For anyone who uses trackers, what's would you say is good "ettiquette" concerning the re-use of others' samples? Is doing so looked down upon? Does everyone do it once it awhile, or does it depend on the artist? I just don't want to get started making 8-bit music using a method that's not really seen as "fair."

In short, is it okay to re-use other artist's samples (not exclusively, of course) or should you only rip/make your own?
