H8 Tracker 1.90 Tips-Techniques-Pitfalls...
« on: December 02, 2020, 04:28:06 »

Well just finished a short test tune in H8 Tracker 1.90 beta which is tracker that came out in 2001…

Probably many here have not even heard of it…I’m sure a few have though…

I find this tracker good for short tunes or concepts exploration is fast workflow but you must be man enough to tolerate a few pitfalls & a beta environment…

The reward is a portable tracker that is compact & free of garbage features with automation curves which are the FOREFRONT of the tracker…

Here’s tune I uploaded last nite worked on it on-off during past week…NOTE…There was no crackles on any playback 'till I started recording the output of it even though it just uses directsound…I’ll have to try some different recorders to try & solve…

There is NO CHEATING using H8Tracker…QWERTY only & when I am doing QWERTY only I use a method called tactical composing…

Since this was coded by a 19 year-old Polish kid I am surprised it was not QWERZ format…Kid had ingenious ideas too bad it did not go further…

If you want to challenge yourself to make a tune on a 20 year-old tracker with LIMITATION & CONSTRICTION yet refreshing simplicity & actually quite stylish you can DL here…NOTE…It’s just a 329 KB ARCHIVE! It includes TRACKER, 3 GUI-Less plugs & ONE demo tune!..LOL!..TIGHT CODING!

This can also be put into the wayback machine as well & comes back too-

This would make a great ‘challenge tracker’ for a contest of sorts…

It loads WAVs (not all) XIs & the rest is VSTi-VST only quality plugs work if you have any questions post them on alonetone under my test tune in comments…

If you have grabbed the GUI-Less plugs I uploaded the 95% of those will work 100% in the tracker....

Well, Just tested DiscoDSP HighLife and it functions perfect in H8...

Rather a milestone as sampler as it can sample a VST & freeze it converting the output to its own sample library, which can also be exported to SFZ...

So in H8 or any other sequencer you have a problem using then just freeze the plug in HighLife then you got same sound with less HP needed...

I already had this & search didn't help too much but might find it here-

https://www.vst4you.com/pages/vst%20instruments/highlife.html

Hopefully that's the freeware one...There was 1.4 then the R1-R3s were free not compatible with 1.4............ confusing times...

Some nights ago was up all night running water at intervals, keeping woodstove going, not really creative so I made a video of test tune 'Girl Cheese Sandwich'...

Once again though as it plays fine standalone when recording it there is the crackling, the video a bit worse than the audio version....
