MilkyTracker v0.90.80 is out
« on: April 13, 2008, 23:54:48 »

This is a big release for us and we hope you'll like it too. As usual, the new version fixes several bugs and replay issues but more interestingly, the code refactoring has resulted in two things: A) Cool new features. B) MilkyTracker is now open source (GPL). That's right, dig in, patch, port, maintain, you are welcome to do so. Linux distributions can also now include MilkyTracker in their sofware repositories, so spread the word. We'd also like to see some quality player plugins and whatnot come out of this.

You might have already noticed but with the new release, the website was also rebooted and the manual now has a comprehensive list of the effect commands with their explanations. Hoping to serve you better and all in all, provide a better MilkyTracker experience. If you're still reading this, now would be a good time to stop and go get your copy of MilkyTracker from http://www.milkytracker.net.

oh man! i'd so like to see protracker 2.3b and 3.61 clone milky forks!
i mean, the interface and shortcuts.

most amiga musicians don't feel at home in milky and don't use it.

Don't get me wrong, but if they refuse to switch for such reasons they just don't love tracking. Many oldschool composers have switched and they actually like MilkyTracker a lot.

This is nice progress.  I really like the new features, the re sampling is fantastic. Nice work!!!  I'm sure this will fit nice in the hands of many composers.

With the praises must also come the gripes  :-\
I was immediately disappointed when I found several great features still lacking..

  MIDI!  wtf?
Those of us who use trackers live, hoped for better midi support.
I believe the potential exists to implement FT2's midi capabilities, and expound upon them. I see milky having the potential to be a powerful life sequencing tool. Hope some day the vision is shared, and the capabilities realized.

  No internal Sampler???   Bummer.

Not as big a deal, but just for my personal live tracking style
No mouse selectable track speed of 00....  but the BPM selection is nice and smooth! ;D

My hopes are that in the hands of many thousands of developers, some of these important features can be realized.

oh my, great work! i tested both pocketPC and win version and everything just works flawlesly =) also, the resample option is great idea, now i can make modules for amiga demos, partially knowing how it would sound on real hardware ; ) also new features in sample editor are great, oh my, this is pleasant surprise.

Well I'm no programmer but it's good to see open source software that's actually good. Hopefully, if possible, maybe someone could start supporting MED/MEDSS formated mods? I've got a lot of unfinished/almost finished tunes in MED format that I can only work with using Open MODPLUG Tracker. (That I know of..)

I like MPT but I just can't get use to it. It's kinda tweaky for me and I have a crappy sound card. The buffers need to be set to a high cache and trying to compose when you have to wait 1-3 seconds for your sound to come through gets annoying, and problematic. Milky Tracker isn't a problem in that area. Maybe a bit but buffers can be set to a lower latency and things are fine without all the crackle... :)

At any rate, cheers on the release. I still had v .60
