[closed] module upload
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:34:08 »

This is to whomever runs ModArchive. Sorry for the song I uploaded, I did not realize it was so big :(

A roughly one minute song should not be nearly 5 megs. Guess I still have lots to learn about tracking.

Ok, it's aki.it I guess. What do you want to do? upload a trimmed down version or do you want to still leave it to be screened for quality by the screening crew?

try downsamling the sounds or try compressing your song in MO3 format (if it's worth it).

Use the optimization feature in your tracker of choice (if available) to see what you can cut without losing content or quality. If it's just big samples, do what MyOwn31 says. Although I'm not sure if MO3 uploads are accepted in TMA.

things that optimization features will most likely not detect are f.e. big samples which only half played or something like that. if you have large samples, watch how much of them is actually played in the song (modplug for example indicated the current position(s) of the samples being played) and cut the sample down to the part that is actually heard.

I've now rejected them module.

We do state on the upload area that it's usually a bad idea to upload your first ever modules. If the size wasn't so large then there is a chance it would have gotten in, but it needs work on it in my opinion, fill it out with some texture, get some structure in there, have a set of key melodies, try and build on that and perhaps follow some of the advice given in this thread to get the size down.

You can always link up an externally hosted copy of your tune to share with the community in the Release Corner forum.
