PWM through saws
« on: December 03, 2012, 15:10:19 »

Just think I should hint you guys up on this trick:

If you have a sawtooth sampling, then you can invert that sample in another slot. By inverting the sawtooth and using it slightly detuned then you're getting something that sounds kinda like pulse width modulation.

The more detuned the 2nd saw is the more pulse width modulation is applied.

Old trick. ;) It's been used in many small modules, e.g. the famous aryx.

Thank you for posting this!

I'm totally new to tracking but I've been playing with synths for a long time. PWM was something I was missing from tracking, I made a bunch of samples of various pulse widths and arranged them to play in sequence but that was a tedious and not totally satisfactory way of achieving PWM. This sawtooth technique sounds much nicer.

Thank you for posting this. I came to this forum hoping I would find info in how to add pwm to a tracker. I usually work with analog synths where it's usually done in a different fashion. Sorry for the necro-bump!
