An oldie returns...
« on: March 16, 2014, 05:26:36 »

Hey all,

I was pretty active here back in the late 90's, and a bit of a typical teenager at the time I have to admit.

I used to kick back listening to Mick Rippon and anything by Skaven & Purple Motion.  Catch that Goblin anyone?  Anyone?  No?

When I realised this place was still going I was excited to see all my old stuff was up too!  Had a bit of a laugh at my lovingly crafted tunes that I'd slave over day and night and used to think were awesome (lol).

Anyway I want to try and get back into my account, update the profile and maybe upload some new tunes.

Great to be back - what have I missed?

Welcome back! ;D What have you missed? Everything and nothing. The site goes on as always, although probably with a bit less activity than in the 90s. ;)

As I feared - but still a lot of great memories holed up in this place.

Genuine question - are people still making mods?  Even as just an anachronism?  Any good examples of recent mod music?

Sure, there's still plenty of module music being made, but probably not quite as much as 15-20 years ago. Or at least people aren't spreading it as much on module sites any more, you see a lot of stuff on YouTube that's obviously running inside trackers but people don't share the corresponding module files, which is... sad.

Regarding good recent stuff, well I certainly don't want to brag but if you're into synthpop, you should give my stuff at try. ;D
Also the featured modules section could be helpful, although not all of the recent additions to that list are always new modules.

Listening to snowflakes now - not bad  :)

I get what you're saying about sharing.  Way back when you'd see everyone ripping samples and sharing mods all over the place.  Guess we can thank people like Timbaland for making people more cautious?

I see the scene is still ticking along too - just wondering, do you know of any demoscene section for websites?  I wrote a phase mod synth and a basic tracker in javascript in under 2k - if there's any form of scene for that kind of thing I'd be inspired to try and build on it to create a full demo.

You could post it on the board at pouet.net - lots of sceners lurking there and I'm sure there are some who'd love to try this out, since more and more people are still getting into JS demos.
