My module got rejected for no reason
« on: April 26, 2016, 16:00:08 »

Okay, so I tried doing my first OpenMPT project by using this song: http://modarchive.org/index.php?request=view_by_moduleid&query=33160 and replacing the percussion with Sonic 3 DAC samples (by the way, this is my main account's name)

And when I tried to do the same thing but replace the percussion with Sonic 2 DAC samples, i got this in my rejected modules:

airy_-_sonic-2.mod

Sorry, according to our screening staff, this module already exists on the archive as MOD.Airy (Filename: airy.mod ID: 33160)

^ This is completely false. It is NOT the same module and i'm not kidding.
So I had to rip the samples out of a Z80 memory dump,  import them to samples and  pitch the notes with the snares one octave up for a fixed pitch then end up with this? Cruel.

I might edit this and upload the actual module for comparision when i'm gonna go home on mega.nz or somewhere, because i'm not there right now.

An alternative reason for rejecting the module would have been that you are taking someone else's work and claim it as your own. As much as you dislike the percussion samples on the original file (which is NOT CC-licensed or in the public domain), this gives you no right to simply take the file, exchange a sample and claim it to be your own.
I should have already rejected the first version but I realized too late that it's already on the archive.
ModArchive is not a space for personal experiments, but a permanent archive.

Does remixing an existing module count as your own creation? Otherwise I might just end up with the banhammer on my head....and I don't like it

If your remix does not just consist of replacing the snare sample, then yes, it's completely okay. And of course you absolutely should be giving credits to the original author rather than just putting the module without any mention of the original and remix author on your profile.

This is where I'm having problems at, too.
I don't know how to put a description, all that i know to do is send the module.

If you don't know how to edit the sample texts to include a message, then maybe you should practice a bit more with the tracker before submitting anything. The worst mistake a beginner can make is to upload their first module and then regretting a year later that they cannot remove it anymore.

Wait, not even administrators can remove a module?

No. We have a module removal policy. "I don't like my music anymore" is not a reason to remove a module since it would do permanent damage to The Mod Archive and other module sites. What has been spread cannot be unspread, simply speaking.
