DroidSound E on Pixel crashes
« on: December 18, 2016, 04:03:45 »

Hi, I recently got a Pixel phone and my favorite music player for Android stopped working. Basically whenever it tries to access the broader local filesystem it crashes; it can access the example mods fine, but if I try to mount my Download directory it crashes before the directory selector dialog appears.

I'm using Android 7.1 and I know that more recent versions of Android require apps to request permission to access the filesystem, not sure if that's the problem though.

The behavior is the same in the original DroidSound that's on the Play Store.

DSE is my favorite player. No other player for Android uses OpenMPT, treats folders like playlists, and supports Bluetooth so well. I'd really like to be able to use it. :-[

Well, I can only suggest to notify this problem to the dev team behind this app. Maybe they can fix it. But, if you need some alternatives, I can give you 2: XMP Mod Player and ZXTune.

The downside for XMP Mod Player is that it can crash (no screen freeze, just refuses to play the module) when you pause a module it's currently playing and start a new one.

But the good thing is it still supports .mptm files (albeit with or without full support), just not officially declared by the dev. It also supports 64 channels, so there's little to no restriction of what file you want it to play...well...except for .mp3.

ZXTune has a good UI, just that putting mod files into a collective playlist is kind of tricky.
I'll leave that up to you to find it out.

However, I still can't get the Sound and Emulation settings to work. I guess I can't hear the difference between the sound of one to the other. I'm not sure if it supports 64 channels (and/or .mptm files) fully, because I've just updated it to the most recent version and it suddenly allows such files to be played.

I've tested both the XMP Mod Play and the ZXTune's compatibility with 64-channel mods with Deep In Space and Plasma Weapon, and its compatibility with .mptm files with the files of the format I can find in Mod Archive.

I'm terribly sorry if you can't load up the directory in DroidSound E.

And..uhh...my phone is running on Android 4.4.2, so the results you get could very well be the same as mine.

It would make more sense to report your problem here: https://github.com/droidmjt/Droidsound/issues

Yes, and it did. Thanks to good communication and debugging, the issue has been resolved and I am now using DroidSound E. Yay!  :)
