ST-xx .adf disks?
« on: August 29, 2019, 09:24:31 »

I'm trying to get Noisetracker to work under WinUAE, but it keeps telling me to insert the volume "ST-00" in any drive. I can't figure out how to create my own .adf from an .lha archive (I know you have to uncompress it, but you apparently need to make some kind of header, and I haven't figured out how to do that,) so is there some kind of software than can do that or some ST-xx .adf disks I can load in WinUAE?

You might be wondering why I'm trying to use Noisetracker when I can just use OpenMPT, it's because I wanted to try making an authentic Amiga song, with all of the weird bugs that probably got fixed in modern trackers.

There is a Protracker clone that works on windows?

https://sourceforge.net/projects/protracker/

Unless Noisetracker has a specific issue with using hard disks instead of floppies, you should be able to just create a hard disk from any folder in WinUAE and slap the ST-00 label on it. This is way more comfortable than working with floppies, too. It's what I do whenever I have to test something in ProTracker.
If it absolutely has to be a floppy image, try ADF Opus.

For some reason it just keeps going in an endless loop of alternating between a black screen and Amiga DOS. Do you need a Kickstarter ROM for it or does the WinUAE replacement Kickstarter ROM work fine? For some reason WinUAE wouldn't accept my Kickstarter 1.3 ROM.  ???  I'm going to try making it into a floppy disk.

That's pretty cool, but I was already aware of it, and it isn't really answering my question  :-\

I just tried NoiseTracker (v1.0 to be specific) and it works fine here with a standard A500 config, Kickstart 1.3 (rev 34.5) and a Workbench 1.3 floppy image. Note that you can simply cancel the "insert ST-00..." prompt and the application will still start - given that the rest of the environment is okay.

That won't work - if you got the ROM file, you need to use it as a ROM. There are both Kickstart disks and Kickstart ROMs but I would recommend to use the ROM for ease of use.
Just to confirm what you did - you pointed the "System ROMs" path in the WinUAE setup at the directory containing your Kickstart 1.3 ROM and it said that it didn't find any ROMs?

Ok - I worded that part incorrectly, I meant trying to make the ST-00 a floppy.
Huh. Now Kickstart (why the heck did I say Kickstarter) just randomly decided to work. And Noisetracker works just fine now. I don't know what the heck just happened, but I didn't change anything. Maybe WinUAE had/has a fluke.   :azn:

...now I have to learn to actually use Noisetracker. :P
