MOD radio stations
« on: January 24, 2021, 01:42:38 »

With all the time at home during the pandemic, I've really enjoyed using this site and discovering new tunes to add to my collection  :)

I had the idea of starting a radio station (internet based of course) and streaming some mods I have curated in a playlist for background music while working. I know there is some precedent already for this with sites like www.scenestream.net -- would it be OK legally as long as the modules do not contain a notice from the composer like "nothing except personal use allowed"?

Also, please share any links to stations playing mods that you may know of, thanks!

Unless there is a specific license attached to a module (e.g. CC-BY-NC-SA), you technically have to ask authors if it's okay to do this, even if the module doesn't specifically say so. This is the only legally safe way. In practice though, most artists will probably not mind as long as you're not making a profit from the project, but it would be legally grey area (and you can bet that most radios streaming modules fall into this category as well).

Other radio stations with modules:
SceneSat focusses more on the modern site of scene music, but also has some good modules.
CVGM focusses more on video game music, including tracked music.

Thanks Saga... contacting all those artists would be difficult so maybe I'll just keep the playlist to myself. With the genres of songs involved, it would be a niche interest anyhow. Many of the additions are from the 'Electronic - Ambient' genre on this site.

Good to know about those 2 stations, btw... thanks!

I'll let you use my music as long as you credit me for it.

Thanks Nikku, I see you are prolific... I have decided to keep my growing playlist to myself for now. Cheers!
