UI for small screen (uConsole)
« on: July 08, 2024, 18:36:41 »

Hi everybody!

I've recently bought a Clockwork uConsole (raspberry CM4 model).
It's an amazing machine, IMHO the best portable candidate for tracking. Yes, better than M8 or Polyend... and yes, it's only my opinion. Milkytracker is one of the best (if not the best) program to get a complete tracking portable system. The machine is also so sexy :)

BUT, I found a screen limit... 5", 1280x720. More than enough, you could think, but I'm afraid it's not. Buttons are sooo tiny, and same for the rest.
Yes, we could configure it in 640x480 and set scale by 2, but the lower part of the screen is missing. Then I figure out some solutions (but please bear in mind I'm musician, not a coder, so I don't know the workload needed, sorry for the ignorance).

1.- Allow custom resolution of 640x360 and scale by 2. The problem is that custom resolutions can't go below 480 horizontal.

2.- Rearrange the sample editor/instruments/etc, eliminating the pattern and/or VUmeters while editing (in my workflow, I don't need to access those when editing samples or instruments... by the way, it's my workflow.

I saw very good UI arrangements for small devices in the past. Is it feasible to implement some of these solutions? Or another better one to deal with small modern screens.

This would open a big oportunity not only for uConsoles, but for small systems based on raspberry.

Thanks guys, and many thanks for doing such a fabulous tracker.
