I'm a newly registered member (who's been listening to and loving MODs since '90s).

Over the last few weeks I've been unsuccessfully able to download any song from the modarchive site (for review and enjoyment).   {I'm also unable to locate any support email, so figure this forum is the best place to ask for help.}

I'm able to browse to the songs detail's but the download.php page never responds.  Is this a result of the new site, or just my new accout without any points?  IE and Firefox both report the same 'No content' error page.  Example: http://modarchive.org/download.php/C/crown.xm

Any ideas?

Are you at a school or some office with a proxy server?

The downloads work find on regular internet connections, at least for me and the others I have verified with (else we would be seeing a lot more complaints).

At an business Office...  and we've got no proxy (just a normal firewall).

Could there something within the redirect to/selection of the mirroring server
that is related to my new account?

No, there is nothing relating to your account for downloading. It is likely that your firewall is not permitting the downloads because they source from HTTP mirrors using port 8081. There is no way around this I am afraid as we cannot move the mirror hosting port to anything else (those hosts have other services on them that we are not allowed to interfere with, for instance).

I strongly recommend doing a telnet to modarchive.org on port 8081 and see if you get a connection/response.

C:> telnet modarchive.org 8081

Oh and another thing... exactly what client are you using to download? There are a few leechers like wget and Getright which are deliberately blocked.

Well, I think you hit it... That port 8081 seems blocked on my end. 

My D/L client is IE v7.0 or Firefox (v?).

I'll talk with my network admin (next cube over) and see why that port is blocked.

One (meaning me) could say they are obsessed/addicted to lurking on these forums, then again I hope thats hardly surprising considering my baby is just starting to walk (metaphorically, i ain't got any kids)

I'd add that 'Show unread posts since last visit' is a *VERY* helpful feature.

Well, you'll see me around these parts.  I've finally feel that I've got something (a few years music listening) to contribute back to the community, and won't be leeching songs any more.

Maturity and time have helped me to see the errors in my ways.

There's nowt wrong with grabbing the torrents, mind you that's kinda slow but eventual nonetheless. Well, cya around - hope you can talk your network admin around. There is no genuine reason to block an outgoing port. Even my work doesn't mind that and they are paranoid considering the work we do.

I talked with my admin... he is NOT going to open the port 8081.   

Could it be possible to display/obtain the redirect URL from the download.php
so that I could use a proxy server to perform the actual DL?   
(Or is that a hidden item because of leechers?)

Ok, correction my admin said that IF I had a list of servers/ports he'd be willing to open them specifically.  (I'm not usually a trouble maker for him).


Can I assume :8081 for each of the mirror servers you list on the home page?
