Voice mixing software
« on: October 23, 2007, 19:43:12 »

I need an easy-to-use software for recording and mixing voices. I want to change a human voice into something that sounds like an alien, Gollum, or the like. Is there a software that can do this?

I personally don't believe that there is no single software that can do all tasks at once.
If you want free stuff, Audacity may be your choice for recordning and basic effects. A non-free but very powerful reocrding and mastering suite is WaveLab, it also supports VST plugins which may be used for extra effects.
If you want to create alien or robot-alike sounds, you may try a vocoder. a very nice free vocoder i know is called "Zerious Vocoder"...

Thanks for the reply! :)

I've tried looking for Zerious Vocoder but the only page that seemed to have it says it's not available any longer.

Do you know of any other vocoder?

I just uploaded it to my webspace together with the original example carriers and modulators and some two carriers (surp*.wav). The presets are pretty good to use, however you can modify them as you wish. Have a look at the manual to see what may sound good and what would not.

Link: Link removed, if you still want to have this freeware vocoder, contact me

Maybe try Goldwave. It has all kinds of nice features, including your mechanical alien voices.

I'll give that a try =)

I couldn't make much use of the vocoders - not in the short timespan I had when making that movie. It was hard to get the kind of effect I wanted.
