THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG:

As you know, this is my first release, and it was entered into MC6

(Music Competition 6), and I HIGHLY recomend it to any new, or experienced

tracker.  I finished it at about 1:21 in the morning, and after I got only

a few hours of sleep, I sent it off to the MC6 entries FTP site, 5 hours

before the deadline (I heard of some people that sent it only minutes

before the deadline. I'm writing this on the 15th, so I finished the song

yesterday.

I first had the idea for this song a while ago, and my friend gave me

the excuse to compose it for MC6.  I accepted the challenge, and started

to compose the song only a WEEK before the deadline...

The original ideas for this song were done on my QS6, and I wanted to

use those same instruments in the song.  So I hooked up my Alesis QS6 to

the computer, recorded some sounds as WAVs, and imported them into my

Impulse Tracker song (I forgot to mention, this is also my first song

using IT, but I composed with Scream Tracker III earlier, so getting used

to the interface was no problem).

I continued for 3 days, and then it was Monday... The deadline for

me (living in California) was Tuesday, 5:00pm.  I sat on my butt for 18

hours, finishing the final parts of the song.  I finished it at 1:21am,

and entered the song at about 12:00pm the same day.  Now all I have to do

is wait... for a while... um... untill... <snore>... September, to get my

results back from the contest.

Some things I decided to do for this song was first... Most of the

trackers wipe the instrument names and headers to put their song title and

other info.  I know what it is like trying to find instruments, so I left

the file names and descriptions in the song for trackers to use.  Second,

I also found that some people who record their samples, say that you can't

use them, or you have to give credit.  So, I decided to give trackers the

FULL right to use my samples, just to make everyone's lives easier.

In closing, this song was great experience for me, and anyone who is

interested in tracking, I suggest you start composing, and enter MC7 next

year (if there is one, the Hornet Archive is dispanding), and be a judge

also, musicians are ALWAYS wanting to hear from their listeners!

WHAT IS SEt:

SEt, or the Satellite Entertainment Team is the developer group that

I'm part of, and I'm one of the two founding members, and I don't want to

be the only musician and ANSI artist in the group!  If you are interested

in the following:  Programing, Artwork, Music, or anything else that might

help us... please join.  Go to our site and find out how!

So far we are just releasing songs and pretty pictures.  We WOULD

have released a door game, and finished our BBS, but BBSing doesn't seem

to be a big thing now, lets just hope that ANSI artwork doesn't go with

it.  Our BBS was a big deal at the time, and total I drew 157 ANSIs for

NOVA BBS, also known as NOVA Station MSL-32.  Thus the name of this song.

This song is a tribute to all of our old ideas that just never happened.

It is sad though... 157 ANSIs that are collecting dust not being used

(anybody want some?  No, serious!  Mail me).

SAMPLE CREDITS:

"Mechanism 8" and "Hypercontrol", by Necros, "Nine One One", by WAVE

(MC champ, 2 in a row), "Peekaboo", by Radix, "Aquaphobia", and

"2nd Reality", by Purple Motion of Future Crew (big hello!).  Voice

samples from Shatterd Steel by Interplay, and the rest by me (that

American who thinks he knows so much), except for a cymble.  I have no

clue were that came from.

POST STATEMENTS:

Just for future reference, my "Post Statements" are any comments that

I have after the completion of the song.  I always write my first remarks

immediately after I finish.

MY BASIC OVERVIEW OF THE SONG:

It sucks.  Well, it is not TOO bad, but after I sent the song off to

MC6, I found a lot of problems with it (some of the more anoying ones are

fixed in this official release).  This is what happens when you wait

untill the last minute to compose a song.  With homework, it might work,

but not with music.

The next song I'll be working on is called "Lazerium" (this one

shouldn't suck).  I got the idea after playing Laser Tag. Laser Tag was a

good source of insperation at the time.  So, I got home, pounded out some

notes on my synth, and wrote them down.  The song has a lot more "techno"

elements that this one, so we'll see how it turns out.  "Lazerium" should

be finished... whenever.

POST MC6 NOTES:

Well, I just got the results back from the competition (25 days

late due to the lack of votes turned in on time) to see what people think

about my crap-- uhhhh... music.  Well, to put it plainly... my song

bombed.  I do think the judging was a LITTLE unfair, but honestly there

was NO way I could have made it to the Final Round.  I did get some really

good suggestions however.  Most of the song comments I got back went

something like this...

"This is a good song, earned well above average.  Good mix of bass,

background padding, decent leads, and a welcome chord progression. But I

can't give it top marks because it isn't a stunning peice.  It's too

repeatitive, few mood changes, but the atmosphere created gets cool to the

end... good ending.  Nice samples, but they were used to death. Probably

and early demotune-aimed melody,Find new ways to provide a 'hit' and

change the lead instrument more often.  The key change could have come

earlier. Overall, a standard entry.  Needs more creativity and more kick.

Generally tracked."

Well, there it is.  The above paragraph is actually a mix of 5 song

comments.  I got some good comments to make this song better (except one

guy who only wrote 3 lines).  The main problem with this song was the

little amout of time I spent writing it.

Alright, I'm sick of writing.  I think I'll work on "Lazerium" and

those dumb MIDIs for the Web Page.  Untill then, keep tracking!

VERY POST STATEMENTS:

Finally released song today (1/30/1999) now that the Web Page is

finally up!  I also just recently joined IMM, the Internet Music Monitors

(http://surf.to/the-imm/).  Go there, cool site, great songs!  I'm also

working on another cool piano/orchestra piece, "Ashen Skies".  That's it

for now (it sure took a while to release it didn't it?).  I'll try very

hard to get both songs done soon.  It's time for some real commitment!

See ya!
