Some time ago I downloaded the song "Dragons Legend" of MyVoice (Jukke Sundqvist). Koto made the original. I'm an old fan of Koto and discovered this song was based on the "Siegfried's Mix" version. It did not contain the voice samples, but considering the overall quality, MyVoice did a really good job with this one. Sounds great! The reason why I decided to remix his song after such a long time is simple. I recently ran into some good voice samples from the game "Dragons Lair", the same source Koto used for the song "Dragon's Legend". You find a lot of this stuff on YouTube today, but always with voices and music mixed together. So the samples you make always contain the background music. However, in one case the voice samples were recorded on a separate audio track. Perfect for sampling.... With this samples I had a good change to make the song complete. Some of these samples had static flutter (not strange with a game from 1983), so I used Audacity to filter that out. I also discovered that Koto pitched them one note higher for use in "Dragons Legend". (Pitching up makes the samples also a bit shorter.) The "Siegfried's Mix" uses only half of the original voice samples. Koto did use an extra two samples from the game intro in the "Maxi Mix" of "Dragons Legend" (together with some more nice adaptions), but added also the samples with Japanese talking. I made a remix of this song with MilkyTracker and included the game samples Koto used (Daphne's hint, game intro samples, oooh-sound, and the background effects from the anvil attack scene). Also I mixed in some of the instrument changes, drums and stereo effects of the Maxi Mix, together with two drum sequences of my own. At last I added extra info in the instrument list, together with the lyrics. The result is a very nice combination of these two versions of "Dragons Legend", which comes very close to the overall dynamic atmosphere of the original Koto song. This without making to many changes in the original song, which is to my opinion already good. Most of the changes I made are inspired by the changes Koto made in the Maxi Mix. It got a staggering length of almost 8 minutes, but doesn't get boring for a single moment. It really was a lot of fun making it. Jukke Sundqvist, if you are reading, this one is for you. Enjoy!!
