Kasparov, named after the, by 1999 best chess player in the world, was a tour de-force realtime demo by Elitegroup, the half-joking, half-not joking "very good"(tm) German concept Demoscene group that wanted to kickstart a stagnant and boring scene. And did. For a bit at least. Relentless and hypnotic, Kasparov's endless matchbox shaped spider armies and sinister empty park house levels can still make an impression today, some 15 years later. It's a different age in computer graphics, yet, and still, "everything is under control".
And here's the soundtrack in all its post-processed, originally mp3 sample packed and re-added, baked-in real-time effects glory. At over 5 Mbyte size and 11 minutes running length, it sure is a behemoth of an XM file, but well worth it, as even with only half the impact, it remains an impressive feat. For the real deal, watch the demo.
(Rating? I'm going with "8 - Very Good", of course)
