Taken from stage 1 in Journey to Silius. Redone by Mesonyx. Sorry about the lack of quality, I did the Silius music back in 1996 and unfortunately I never bothered to put more work in it. Fin: 23.March 1996 Jon Dal, 1997 jd_cryogen.com

The difficulty with remaking Silius is that it is a very good chiptune soundtrack to begin with. Therefore, adding something to new to it is very difficult, while any mistake will be really jarring.
If you would've remade it in a different genre, then yes, it would make sense. But this?
I would specifically single out two problems:
1. The backing "guitar" instrument is very poorly chosen. For one, it's overly loud and makes the bass virtually inaudible. In the original it is a soft sound which plays completely in the background. This removes any sense of a groove. Also, the sound has a very poorly sounding volume envelope tail which is just painful to listen to.
2. The lead has too many slides, which are completely uncalled for. The original has a couple of them, which make sense, because they connect notes between the end and the beginning of the melody. In your case it's just showing off your ability to do it. Very distracting.
All in all, this shows what you say in the description - very little work put into this.
